No one does that anymore

Xbox One : Reveal = on May 21, 2013  ; Release = November 22, 2013   (6months time)

PS4 : Reveal = February 20, 2013  ;  Release = November 15, 2013 (8-9 months time)

You cant compair the "slim" for the Xbox One, to a new console launch. Its a minor update to a already launched product.

So the most resent console launches we can compair it to, are the original PS4 and XB1.

Microsoft and Sony, arnt "no-ones" in the console space.

Also the NX is a new "idea / concept".

It ll probably take more time, to educate the masses on what it is, and why thats good.

wait and see

Yes that's enough time, if it was a bad product an amazing near launch unveiling marketing wouldn't have helped it anyways ...

I want to see what the NX is all about soon so we can put a lot of this talk about it off very soon ...

Maybe Nintendo will be the one to buck this ancient backward trend that is only practiced by console manufacturers

If you need more than 6 months to sell the new concept, you probably should rethink your product.

One event, a month before the reveal is more than enough. With a great marketing campaign to capture the excitement & one minute YouTube videos showing the software, if the product is actually good and not a piece of garbage like the Wii U was, that's all what you will need.

Yeah, 6 months is more than enough to advertise. If anythings going to be an issue it's Nintendo not giving the NX out to as many developers as they could to avoid leaks. Whereas if they had revealed the thing earlier they wouldn't have to have that and everyone under the sun could get a devkit.

Wii wasn't unveiled until less than 6 months before launch.

Wii U was unveiled a lot earlier, and people got tired of it before it launched. The hype dried up a long time before launch.

If anything, Nintendo should probably hold off until January, and then just pump it up with new announcements every week until launch.

I definitely remember hearing about the Wii in 2005 where at the time it was called the Revolution.

If NX is known before the Holidays it could potentially sway some PS4/XB1sales, so there's definitely reason to reveal sooner than later even if they don't start heavily promoting it until 2017.

I bet you remember hearing about the NX in 2015 as well. But the Wii itself was not unveiled until less than 6 months before launch, and that is what we are waiting for with the NX, the unveiling.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

People will make their mind up about whether NX is worth it or not within an hour, so six months is just to give the press plenty of time for hands-on with hardware/software, and generate marketing buzz on the internet and television. *We* just need to know the three key details: Price, launch date, what titles can I buy on launch day?

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Wii U had way more time than NX will have and Wii U flopped. If anything this is a good sign because if they are planning this correctly, then it means that Nintendo is confident in their product to leave so little time for advertising. It so we can hope.

The problem is when you run a ad, not everyone in the world turns on their tv at the exact same time, and watches it.

Most people miss that ad, and the one that follows, ect ect.

The time factor & rate, and the how&where, increase odds that the mainstream "causal" notices it.

And the more times he or she is shown it, if it leaves a positive impression the bigger the chance that it makes a differnce in weather or not that person buys it.

To market something right, I think you need time. This is a new concept as well, a hybrid console, explaining that well and generating appeal for it could take more time than is normal for a console.

I just think its risky of nintendo to not give their marketing teams time to try and build up hype and awareness amoung the masses.

For the core nintendo enthusiast, it doesnt matter. You tell the the date, price, and games it ll have, and they are sold on it.

Its everyone else thats the problem, those casuals nintendo says they are going after.

I mentioned above the Wii had less than 6 months from its unveiling to launch, the same is true with the DS.

Unveiling being the key word. So I am not talking about Nintendo's mentions of "Revolution" in 2005, I am specifically talking about the unveiling. If we are talking about mentions, Nintendo first brought the NX to light over a year ago, so it's about 21 months from then to launch.

When it comes to Nintendo's biggest failed system in the time of internet media, GameCube and Wii U, they were both unveiled a year and a half before launch, and both flopped. Wii and DS were both unveiled less than 6 months prior to launch, and tey're Nintendo's two most successful systems.
