No one does that anymore

Xbox One : Reveal = on May 21, 2013  ; Release = November 22, 2013   (6months time)

PS4 : Reveal = February 20, 2013  ;  Release = November 15, 2013 (8-9 months time)

You cant compair the "slim" for the Xbox One, to a new console launch. Its a minor update to a already launched product.

So the most resent console launches we can compair it to, are the original PS4 and XB1.

Microsoft and Sony, arnt "no-ones" in the console space.

Also the NX is a new "idea / concept".

It ll probably take more time, to educate the masses on what it is, and why thats good.

Maybe Nintendo will be the one to buck this ancient backward trend that is only practiced by console manufacturers

If you need more than 6 months to sell the new concept, you probably should rethink your product.

One event, a month before the reveal is more than enough. With a great marketing campaign to capture the excitement & one minute YouTube videos showing the software, if the product is actually good and not a piece of garbage like the Wii U was, that's all what you will need.
