Forums - Sales Discussion - July 2016 NPD Thread! Hardware and software up!

Hey Aqua, i appreciated last month you posted the results from NPD 15 years ago, can you post July NPD 2001 as well?

I have 55k for Dreamcast, 353k for PS2 and 365k for GBA, but i suspect they are way off.

Some of you can't suck it up and praise MS, like they're the devil or something. A 10k gap is a pretty nice chunk.

Also, I'm surprised Pokemon Go helped the 3DS that much. And I'm ecstatic to see MHGen selling that well!

A 10k gap with all those insane deals in one of the slowest months of the year really isn't nice.

The counter argument is that the slim was up for preorder all of July which may or may not have put a significant dent in the ones sales for the month.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

That was a $399 SKU. Not exactly the kind your average customer will buy.  They're much more likely to get a $249 XBO.

There's also some evidence a lot of those Slims are rebuys, i.e. not a big boost in XBO products being sold.  Currently in Amazon's Top 20 for August, there are 3 XBO products (1 in the Top 10), versus PS4's 10 (7 in the Top 10.) And if you look at best sellers for July, even with all those XBO preorders, excluding the console itself, there are 5 XBO products (2 in the Top 10), versus the PS4's 8 (4 in the Top 10.)

The Nintendo 3DS family of systems sold nearly 80 percent more units this July compared to the same time period a year ago, and finished as the overall best-selling video game system in July.

On the software side, Capcom’s Monster Hunter Generations emerged as the best-selling game for any system.

July sales of the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire games for Nintendo 3DS were over 80 percent higher than July 2015. The games launched in November 2014.

July sales of the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games for Nintendo 3DS were almost 200 percent higher than a year ago. The games launched in October 2013 and finished No. 16 and No. 22 on July’s best-sellers list, respectively.

Games playable on Nintendo systems claimed five of the top 11 spots on the July best-sellers list. These include Monster Hunter Generations from Capcom at No. 1, Minecraft: Wii U Edition from Microsoft at No. 6, Pokémon Omega Ruby at No. 8, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire at No. 10 and Kirby: Planet Robobot at No. 11.
The Nintendo 2DS system has crossed the 2 million lifetime sales mark in the U.S.

Wow, Minecraft Wii U? Interesting. I wonder how well ORAS did when added together.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

That was certainly a decent month for Nintendo! Nice to see Minecraft U in the top 10.

"nearly 80 percent more"

Your number is a theoretical maximum.

I believe it was mentioned earlier in this thread. Monster Hunter Generations sold ~165k units and ORAS (both SKUs combined) were just below that, so ~160k units.

Aqua said Generations was over 165k, and Pokémon "just under that" as Cosmic said may be even less than 160k or over, or whatever. But overall i don't think is so important to know excatly numbers, they were close.
