Forums - Gaming Discussion - Reasons the NX will be a flop

The problem is that people are not really talking like it's speculation.  Many of these people are acting like it's just the truth.  Word choice/phrasing is the key here (like saying NX will flop or will fail rather than may).

Which is no different than those who say it will be a sure-fire success. It's speculation, regardless.

There's much less saying that.  You said there's nothing wrong with it, but when you say it like that with failure like some people, they are instigating fights.  It's one thing to try and bring about a calm, civil debate, and another to go around saying "here's a reason why anyone who disagrees with me is wrong and stupid" which is the tone most people have (both sides really).

Doesn't change the bottom line. There's nothing wrong with making a prediction (whether for/against its success). If posts go too far, they can be reported/dealt with. If that's not the case, then they can remain as they are. If that's something you don't like, there's nothing I can do about that.

I wasn't saying they need to be moderated.  I was just saying it's been a very highly unproductive thread and discussion because of the way people argue their stances.  I'm not saying I'm against someone making a prediction one way or the other, but when your prediction is written like a fact (particularly for failure, since that is almost inherently negative), it will usually start a fight.  It doesn't even matter if there were some valid points, the post is written (and usually responded) in such a way that everything is absolute.

While nothing can be done to really prevent these things from happening, it doesn't really mean it's "okay."  I'd rather see people discuss their opinions like actual opinions.  Too many people are arrogant and stubborn.

Hopefully, you aren't calling anyone, in here, arrogant and stubborn.

As for the discussion/topic, at best, some posts are distasteful, but mostly civilized. It's fine.

I'm not referring to anyone specifically.  Just in general.  I haven't really been paying as much attention to who is saying what as much.

It has a risk of not being attractive for neither console players or mobile players who are giving up on handhelds because smartphones are more practical for a gaming on the go.

I hope this thing will be backwards compatible with the WiiU gamepad.

It won't since the NX will be less powerful than the Xbox 360 and with the WiiU being more powerful than the 360 this means the NX won't be able to run Wii U games!

Signature goes here!

At this stage big third party developers are almost certain to avoid NX. They want hardcore gamers and NX is probably not for that market. Plus PS4 Neo and Xbox Scorpio will make it obsolete soon.

They want money, they don't give a shit about how hardcore you are.

Imo, it depends on pricing. I don't consider it being a hybrid just cause it can connect to the TV... By that logic, my smartphone is a hybrid cause I can buy a connector which also lets it connect to a TV. Or my laptop is a desktop when I connect the HDMI to its port... Unless there is a huge performance boost, it's just a handheld with a dock which lets people charge and play it on the TV at the sametime.

And people do buy handhelds and people do buy Nintendo games... It doesn't need to sell 100 million to be considered a success...

I consider it a hybrid because, from the leaked design rumor, the buttons detaching and it mounting to a stand will likely be a large selling point. the point of a docking stations is to combine the two needed cords, which are an HDMI and power cord, into one entity to increase convinience. You will most likely always have the docking station set up to charge the thing anyway and it likely be more convinient to go from handheld to TV gaming than any other device. No other popular gaming device can truly be considered a hybrid device. it takes more than simply giving a smartphone HDMI out (like my old motorolla atrix), it has to be built with convinience and a home console gaming experience in mind.

also consider that Wii U support is tappering off like Nintendo usually does when the successor is about to come out and that the new sonic is announced for PS4/XBO/NX instead of Wii U. NX is no doubt the successor to both 3ds and Wii U.

NX will be a console that you can detatch and use on the go or a handheld made to seamlessly dock to a TV. I doubt they will try and convince consumers it is one or the other. they will say it is both. with the Wii U being Nintendo worst selling console and 3ds being the worst selling handheld, it makes sense for them to want to combine their entire consumer base remaining. also this can be what they needed to stay relevant in the console market. they were never going to compete with MS and Sony by making a powerful console that goes for the big 3rd party games and big exclusives as well. they have had too many generation of lacking hardware and online infrastructure (coupled with bad 3rd party support/relations) to confidently win over the consumer who currently prefers PS and XB. I don't know how well it will do but it seems like a smart move and this rumored concept appeals to me as someone who skipped buying a Wii U.

You do realize that phones have seemless docking stations too right? They have had it since forever... Even the original ipod way back when had a docking station which would let you connect it to your tv and play videos from it... Yea the NX has controllers that can detach from it but that doesn't make it a hybrid lolll. It is nonsense to call a device that simply connects to your tv through a docking station a hybrid. The only way it can be considered being a "hybrid" is if the docking station provides the handheld with a noticeble performance boost. And I don't mean like 10% but at least 50% or more which no where in the rumor suggests...

And sure, you can think of it as "combining" but in reality, if this is the only thing they got and no console, they are giving up on the console market. They are essentially just making a handheld that can connect to ur tv and making it slightly more convenient than having a wireless controller with you. But if you want to think like that, go for it but it really doesn't make it a hybrid nor are they going to compete in the console market anymore...

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I am a little concerned about the chipset ... it might be gimped knowing Nintendo, also the Tegra X1 runs fairly hot at full power (20 watts would kill even a monster sized battery in like an hour). They need to get that power consumption way down.

According to this Digital Foundry video (https://youtu.be/C6cTt_nxTWo), it will actually be more powerful than the WiiU.
