I want to see a new IP although I would take any of the three choices. I think Retro has shown they are dedicated to quality and would be able to handle pretty much any IP.

Why wouldn't they be?

Listen I agree that the western market is bigger than the Japanese, but I would rather Nintendo do games like Splatoon which puts their take on a online multi-player king of the mountain experience. Zelda BoTW is a good indication of Nintendo making an open world adventure, but in no way would I want them to clone some other game. I like new IP's as much as the next person, but most of Nintendo's IP's that they barely touch are sought after to revisit more so than just creating something new. Kid Icarus could easily be Nintendo's hack-n-slash God of War franchise and I would much rather they do something with that IP than create something similar. These established franchises have history and value that not a lot of Sony games hold up during the test of time. This is also why SmashBros is such a hit because these characters have value... |
It's not about "cloning another game", it's about adding diversity to their catalogue by making the kind of games they are currently lacking.

Because they consist of former WipEout staff. |
Firesprite and Playrise were founded by laid off staff from Sony Liverpool, the studio responsible for Wipeout.

The last thing I heard from them was helping Monster develop DK Tropical Freeze. But that was years ago.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Had the studio been disbanded, we would know about it. It would've been a big story.
I wouldn't be MAD if they made a new Metroid Prime. I just think there really doesn't need to be another one.
I would far rather Nintendo let them work on their own original IPs now, let them become Nintendo's equivalent to Naughty Dog. I'd love to see something really creative and original. In fact, I'd love to see them resurrect the Raven Blade concept, and just totally rework it, to make it fresh and amazing.
- Metroid, without question
- FZero, close second choice

It was actually the other way around, Monster assisted in development, but it was entirely a Retro Studios game. However, yes, that has been years ago, they were basically done with DKCR2 in late 2012. The only reason it really got pushed back, was because Nintendo realized they basically had nothing coming out for several months in early 2013.
I think it's obvious that they likely started development on something else for Wii U at that point, in 2013, and have been working on it since. But it's equally obvious by this juncture, that whatever it is they are making, shifted from Wii U development at some point to become an NX project instead. Either because they were taking too long, or what. Who knows.
All I care is that it's a good game. I would fully expect it, after all the development time it's had, to be ready for NX launch, but again, who knows.

This guy, this guy right here gets it. I completely agree.
