They had to do this.
The announcement of the scorpio right ontop of the Slims, killed their sales.

Without a promis like this, there will be too many people holding off buying a xbox.
They could have avoided this for months and made profit instead, had they not had that announcement.

The Xbox One S was just two spots behind PS4 on Amazon for June.. with only 3 weeks of availablity.   With only being a pre-order and not coming out until August.. I would HARDLY say its sales were "killed".  Also had another SKU in the top 50..

Hopefully, the Scorpio is $500 and I can get at least $150 from trading in my Xbox one/

I'm still thinking Scorpio will be 500 bucks at the most (that's my hope really) 

OT: Good news, this might make me trade in my XBox Slim when the time comes to get the scorpio.

exactly.  i've never seen a trade up program for any console that i didnt' look at it and say "i'm the one getting ripped off here". 

Aye, recall a while ago Gamestop here had an offer to get the Uncharted 4 special PS4 for the low low price of almost the exact same as a PS4... providing you trade in a 1TB PS4 console for it to get that low low price, also they sell the 1TB PS4 for almost the same price as a new system, so gamestop were basically giving you a copy of Uncharted 4 in exchange for a 1TB console they were going to sell for €300 or so, anyone who took them up on that "offer" needed their head examined.

If the price tag is that high sales will be super niche.  To the average console gamer ps4/X1 level games are adequate.  Like look at U4, ratchet and clank,  Ryse and many future titles coming.  You can get that for $300.  Not many will want to pay double.  Unless they win over some of the pc crowd.

Monthly ranking on amazon right now (for this month, not preorders for another):

#20 PS4 - CoD BO3 bundle

#86 Xbox One - name your game bundle

#96 PS4 - 500gb "fools edition"

 

^ these are facts. I dont need to say them many times to fool myself into believeing them true.

On amazon based on these rankings, I wouldnt be surprised if amazon shipped 3 times as many PS4s this month, as XB1's.
