Forums - Microsoft Discussion - (Prediction) Gears of War 4 to sell more than Halo 5 2016 vs 2015 respectively

Do you agree with the OP?

Yes, Gears will be a sales machine 35 40.70%

No, Halo will always be top dog 34 39.53%

Well I've been thinking and saying this for quite so time now so will throw it out there that I predict that Gears of War 4's sales by end of 2016 will beat the Halo 5 end of 2015 which stand at week 02 Janruary 2016 the number for Halo 5 sales according to VGC sits at 3,456,285.

Gears of War 4 will have to have more than 3,456,285 sales at week ending 31st December 2016.

Halo 5: Guardians (XOne)
Microsoft Game Studios, Shooter
10 3,456,285 3,456,285

I've always said that Gears is a more appealing franchise outside of the standard Xbox fanbase and will attract people and gain hype from people who never purchased a Xbox one as their first choice console as well as strong sales amongst the current Xbox One fanbase.

The latest teaser for Gears of War 4 is already the most viewed video on the youtube channel and is still racking up plenty of views. As of the OP it sits at 9m views compared to Xbox One launch at 7m and Halo 5 launch trailer at 6.6m views

WOW, Halo is over, finshed! 0_0

Silliness aside, I didn't realise it underperformed by so much. Yes, Gears will more or equal it IMO.

I don't think so. Gears always played second fiddle to Halo, even with peoples objections to Halo 5.

This generation is different then the last. Xbox doesn't own North America over PS, and has far less ground in Europe. Every exclusive that sold well on 360 will automatically sell millions less on Xbox One for the sole reason, outside the games control, is that this generations focal point is Playstation 4. Gamer buzz therefore won't be on Gears 4 but the Playstation holiday lineup, exclusive and multiplat alike. This means the game will open less, and have its legs cut off before it should be. Unfortunate but hey, tis the way of things.

Like Halo 5, Gears 4 sales will be less then its 360 counterparts, but will sell less then Halo 5 because its ultra violence is slightly more niche then Halos colorful violence.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Pretty much have to accept this.

Sad as games like QB had an abysmal launch, so did ROTR and Sunset Overdrive. These games may crawl to 1 or 1.5 mil, but they deserve so much more.

Halo 5 should be compared more fairly with Halo ODST rather than the main series. That is the only defence I have for it. Awful game.

As Gears 4 is the launch (a quenstionable one at that) of a new series withe new characters, that too can be compared with Judgment over the other main line games. Not only will it never reach the 6/7 million sales of Gears 1,2 & 3, but I doubt it will even reach 2 mil.

Makes me wonder when they will announce the PC version of Halo 5.

Proud to be a Californian.

It has potential, but I think it will entirely depend on the quality of the game.Assuming its better than Halo 5, then yes, it has a chance.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I was talking about This since ever. Ever before Halo 5 Launch.

Yes i think it can, but lot of things Can happen... The Gears of War Series in term of Launch breaked it's peak with Gears of War 3, which sold Over 3 million worldwide First week, and Over 2 million First 2 weeks in The US.

With Judment, The Series is dropped like a rock to barely Over 600K Sold First 3 weeks in USA, though This massive Drop was expect... Because... We all know.

Halo Series is dropped hardly with Halo 5, but was already on The Drop with Halo 4.

Final consideration, well... I believe Halo 5 will Sell ~6 million lifetime, and Gears ~5 million.

So i still Say Halo will Sell more, but not by a huge margin... And i hope to be wrong honestly, cause i like Gears WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than Halo.

Fans of the Gears of War series are really hungry for a great new mainline game in the series no doubt, It will definatly bring in a good amount of the croud that jumped 360 - PS4 for the nostalgia and who probably had a 360 in the first place because of Gears of War :)

I have no doubt it will be a lot closer this gen and no outselling of 2-1 and 1.5-1 like Halo 3 and Halo 4 did through the 360 era.

I could see gears outselling it tbh because its marketing budget seems higher( the latest trailer was shown in the walking dead). Also if a new xb1 launches this holiday and this game is bundled it will do well.
