Forums - Sony Discussion - Ratchet and Clank PS4 analysis (DigitalFoundry)

Only 1 more sleep before I can play this pixar movie.

Around the Network

The last few Ratchet & Clanks had annoying frame rate drops, so I'm grateful they decided on a mostly stable 30fps.

The game should be running at 60fps. No excuse.

The game would still look great at 60fps, especially if they just lowered the resolution to 720p so they could keep most of the effects and visuals any. But of course Insomniac wants to pretend that the PS4 is a powerhouse when it isn't by slapping a meaningless 1080 number onto it. They'd rather have a game that played worse and looked virtually the same than have a game that looked a smudge blurrier, but played the way a game is supposed to.

^^ 720 really? On PS4? Any game, let alone this one would sell under 10 copies. 900/60, 1080/30 or 1080/60 are the only standard. 9/10 people would much prefer a locked 30 nowadays than an open mainly 60 with dips game.

I doubt it has much to do with Insomniac wanting to "pretend that the PS4 is a powerhouse". Their 'graphics > 60fps' position is hardly new (this is the 4th R&C title to target 30fp), and clearly they consider IQ a part of that graphical package, especially in a game with such sharp visuals. Personally, i couldn't agree with them more :p

Oh no! How will we ever play a game at 30fps?! Lol.

Yeah, no thanks. A nearly perfect 30 fps 1080p is better than a 720p game at 60 fps for me. At least when talking about a game like this. If it were a fighting game, or a competitive shooter or something, then sure. But in most cases no thanks.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

While i'd personally be pretty disappointed if they'd opted to cut the resolution (at least for R&C), i think it'd be more accurate to say 9/10 people couldn't care less what either the resolution or frame-rate is. For the majority, the collective end product ("Is this good or shit?") is all that really matters, and honestly, it's all that should matter to anyone. While i might have been disappointed by R&C being 720p, it wouldn't stop be buying it. Even at 720p/30fps i'd likely still enjoy the hell out of it.

Well its a series people were accustomed to play at 60 fps, so the frame drop sucks. I mean people wouldn't be happy if the next God of War was gonna be locked at 30 fps.

I haven't played the series much so I'm not complaining personally.

R&C -smooth 30 FPS for the most parts, subtle dipping, no one gives a shit
Star Fox Zero - smooth 60FPS for most parts on TWO screens with some dipping down to 50FPS and sometimes even a whole 40!!! Omg so bad lets riot and tell Nintendo to get their shit together

More proof of Nintendo getting hate because it's Nintendo.
