Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why didnt Sega get the backlash MS does?

PC are designed for general purpose not gaming specifically, even gaming PCs. As time goes on it becomes a more viable platform for more gamers, furthermore with this generation of consoles being the most PC like, the line is virtually nonexistent.

And despite criticizing gamers for acting out on buyer's remorse, that it a natural occurrence when a reason you bought the system is "retroactively removed". The whole voting with your wallet mentality crap doesn't work when you've bought the system on false pretenses.

Thus especially then versus now, distinguishing characteristics (console v console, and console v PC) are extremely important and scrutinized.

Not to mention the majority of the "backlash" was caused a la poor PR by Microsoft as in the launch debacle.

Here's a question. Was their a huge backlash when Halo 1 or 2 came to PC? At that point, the Internet was nearly what it is today. Minus social media.

I don't argree with this. If PC had this power. Then consoles wouldn't really be here now. The value of a console is the ease of use. That is why people will buy them. Unless they end up turning into PC's. Then they become moot. I didn't go and buy any Xbox for Halo. I just got them on PC. And when they stopped. I never played the rest. It didn't convince me to buy the systems. Same will go towards the reverse. But having both options. Would just get MS more money. Now, for me. I still won't bother, if the rest of Halo is ported to PC. Because, they'll lock the games to the 10 store. I didn't buy H2 PC, till last year. Again, not worth my time to change my work PC, to play that one series.

I Disagree, People purchase consoles because of the games, if all the games are somewhere else, they will just stick with it, what is the point to Upgrade into a New Console, when you can play all the Games of the Console, Plus the PC Games, with the same Money ?, and Microsoft, don't get more money for Releasing games for PC, unless Xbox One's Sales are really bad, they lose a lot of Potentially users, that would purchase games for the system, and would pay for Live Subscription, that would  be guaranted Money, because Multiplataform games would sell much more on Xbox One, than on Windows Store, more licesing money for Microsoft, people will only purchase exclusives from the Windows Store, but they will purchase all the other games from Steam, because Windows 10, isn't a Plataform, is just a OS, within the PC Plataform, and is just a Store, people can use EA, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Steam, and Microsoft's Store, in the same device.

Alan Wake, sold 1.3-1.5 Millions on PC, a little more than on Xbox 360, if the game was Exclusive for Xbox One, would move Much more Hardware, if just 10% of those people purchase the Xbox One, because of the game, already would be worth it, i really don't understand Why Microsoft, is releasing all their games on PC, they are Down YOY, so this shows that those  releases for PC, isn't helping Xbox One.

I was talking about MS studio games in general for more money. They won't be anywhere. But the Windows store. And on top of it, it's their product. So it's more money. Plus, they're trying the same thing you want them to do on the console. Get more people to get Windows 10. That's one major goal. That's the sale they want. Even if it scrafices some Xbox sales. They do get money from that. It's a user trade off. But they still get something.

Just like Nintendo does with their "freebees" from Club Nintendo. You still had to buy $200 worth of games. To just buy Game and Watch Ball. And they probably only paid very little to make those. But got $200+ for it. Same with Amazon Prime. You save money on shipping. But do you really? If you don't buy something almost every day. You're just paying a monthly fee, for air. So that cash, is basically getting amazon free shipping money. When you only buy 4 things, in a month.

They are givving Windows 10 for free, if they wanted to get Money, they would not limit it only to Windows 10, and would not give the OS, for Free, what they want is Market Share, now that Apple, and Linux, are growing more and more, and now we have Valve's OS, they just want Market Share, isn't for the Money.

And Microsoft, have a Lot of money to burn with games  they don't need to release for PC, how much Revenue do you think that they will get ?, from what they will lose with Xbox One (they lose much more when something is purchased on PC, and not on Xbox), i don't think that will be Hundreds of Millions of US$, they spent 2.5 Billions on Minecraft, this money would be enough for Microsoft, to make all their games in the next 2-3 Generations, they Cancelled Fable, without even give a chance to it.

Windows 10 isn't free for new buyers. Only exsisting owners of 7/8, to a certain purchased time range. So they get PC sales too. Torjan Horse marketing. Free OS, to people who lost faith with Windows 8. We now have a potentional W10 store buyer. For apps and games. Goal is improved money. And fixing their OS image.

This is all suposition. Unless people have number proof, on how much MS makes per system and game. To PC game and OS sales. If the console was better. Then they wouldn't be doing this, to begin with. If the X1 was the #1 console. I bet they wouldn't be. But because it's not. They now have to branch out in other areas.

what i thought it was common knowledge? I played all those sega games on PC back then haha.

Windows 10 is a Fully Free OS, anyone with Pirate Windows 7, and 8, can update to it for free until the end of July.

And of course Microsoft, receive less Money, with a Xbox One, purchase, is 10 Games Guaranteed during the Life-spam, some years of Xbox Live, and Licensing Fee sales, as i said Windows Store, will not receive a lot of support from Costumers  for Third Party Tittles, Steam, already rule the Market for Third Party Games, EA, Ubisoft, and Square Enix, already are trying to change that, but Steam, grown in a Faster rate than all those 3 Combined.

And again, they don't get nothing from OS Sales, for the following Reasons.

They are giving it for free for anyone even with Un-official Windows Versions of Windows 7, 8, and 8.1.

Majority of PC Owners who use Windows do not play games, i think that less than 1-2% of the users play, the others would upgrade for the Next OS Anyways, so there is no use to devalue the Xbox One, just to bring some gamers to Windows 10.

We don't Know Xbox's Number of Sales, but of course they get much more with 1 Console purchase, than with the Exclusives that they sell on PC, they have over 20 Millions of Xbox's User Base, that is 100% of chances to sell a lot of games, the 200 Millions of Windows 10's Actual user Base, does not means that people will purchase those games only because they have Windows 10,   see how Many users Steam have ?, is more than 70% of the PC'S Digital Distriution Market, and only have  over 200 Millions of Users, Windows, have Billions of Users.

I do not think Microsoft is getting any backlash...
Let be honest here, only one backlashing them are not interested in buying the Xbox One at first...

Having Microsoft games available on both Windows 10 and Xbox One is just a good thing for the consumers...

Isn't good for Xbox One's Onwers, they supported the Console, and this harm their investiment, because Xbox One, will sell less with those moves.

That's my point... I'm a Xbox One owner and non-Xbox owner sees this as a "problem" for us while we are not (talking for the majority here I'm pretty sure)...
Not even bringing the "double" standard of people who also complained a while ago with the 360 about Microsoft getting some third party exclusives and how bad it was for the "consumers", those same people are just bashing Microsoft now for their Windows PC oppening...

And I support the system to play my games on my Xbox One and I do not see anything in what Microsoft is doing that is going to harm that in any way. Actually I see this as an extension to it to bring more people to their franchise and their ecosystem. All good for me.

I feel my investment is just getting better and better values when they are doing that. At some point I even hope for the next Xbox and PC to use the same thing (being a Steam box but with the Microsoft/Xbox Live ecosystem). Windows 10 or Xbox One, I'm not interrested in the "hardware" itself but the Microsoft ecosystem, extending that is just perfect :) I want my Halo games, my Microsoft account, etc. to be available on all my devices (Xbox One or not...).
