Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo fires treehouse member Alison Rapp

I'm gonna try to read her essay before I make any judgements about her but I can understand her getting fired over the controversy just by itself.

It kinda feels like the article left some stuff out.....it's Kotaku, so why wouldn't they. I would like to know the specifics of this.
Sure, if she was fired for her views on Childporn & pedophilia, then I can understand why Nintendo did it. I don't think Nintendo would have wanted to have a childporn defending image to them.

I thought Nintendos actual reasoning was bullshit but apparently her second job was a nude model under an alias and nintendo was not informed about this. Although i feel Nintendo may have just tryed to dig it up for a reason to axe her cause if this pedophile/GG controversy never rose Nintendo wouldnt have ever given a shit *shrug*

Also a child abuse charity employee apparently contacted Nintendo about her.

Ohh....

So nintendo fired her for being a nude model on the side, without informing them about it, when shes a PR face for nintendo?

Haven't read anything at all but it seems Nintendo made a shallow but obvious decision to fire her so not have themselves attached with controversey around her thesis/essay. Its not to say that she was necessarily in the wrong, but that debate could taint their name and it has nothing to do with what they do as a company.

Her being a nude model is more of a problem to nintendo instead of just controversial opinions.

Well...First, thanks for posting this information.

Second.... this situation seems a lot confusing to me. In the end, it´s not clear to anyone what was the real reason why she was fired. She even refused to say that, when she clearly states that there are "´highly confidential" things about it.

Maybe what Nintendo did actually helped her...

Honestly I think its the side job of her being a nude model.

The thesis thingy is bad enough.... but her being a nude model too, as a PR person for Nintendo?

Nintendo has a certain image they want to give off..... and it doesnt start with their public faces outwards being nude models.

Does anyone know her model name?

Then with that, she opened herself to the fire.   Her thesis doesn't protect her against actual child porn.

But she's isn't in PR.  She was in marketing.  She worked with the retailers on marketing materials and shelf space.

She was very outspoken and brought negative attention to the co- people get fired for ALOT less all the time-

The same people who complain about too much digital cleavage in a video game defends a person who defends actual child porn/ pedo s etc  ironic and hipocritical at best

What about the people who condemn her but think clevage and abnormally bouncing boobs of 12 year old looking chracters (if not younger) is ok and shouldn't be censored. Why are they hypocrites and not all the others, following your logic?

No,no. You're doing it wrong. All you need to know is that she's a feminst and feminists are bad and deserve all the abuse they can get. Now be a good male gamer and send her a mean tweet threatening her life or calling her names. Facts don't matter.

(for whatever is worth, I strongly disagree with her views and understand why Ninty would want to fire her)

Kotaku and a lot of other places really need to be called out on this. They ran with the narrative they wanted to push without even bothering to get the facts. I despise that kind of unethical journalism. This was just a chance for them to force their agenda on people. They helped create this storm of bullshit, which is probably what they wanted.

One thing I do not understand are the "Nintendo should have backed her up" comments. What, "Nintendo" should start arguing with internet trolls on twitter? Hell, no. The best course of action is to ignore them. A corporate entity shouldn't get involved with that petty garbage, especially when a lot of the blowback seems to be about this person's personal opinions. People arguing on twitter shouldn't even be on Nintendo's radar.

Finally, with these developers jumping on this without bothering to find out if she was fired for valid reasons, go ahead and cancel your Wii U games. Doesn't matter to me, as I don't own a Wii U, but I'm certainly going to skip buying your products on any other device I own. Your pettiness and ignorance make me not want to support you.
