Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Rise of Tomb Raider 3X the sales on PC compared to Xbox One's debut.

The newly-released PC version of Rise of the Tomb Raider surprises at release. As one of Square Enix’s most visible franchises, the Tomb Raider franchise performed in January, receiving both strong industry recognition and benefitting from a seasonal lull of triple A games. Initial sales numbers on digital console for Rise of the Tomb Raider were soft, due to sharing its release date with Fallout 4 and its exclusivity to Xbox One. The game sold almost three times as many units on PC than it did on console during its first month.”

Also confirms Rise of the Tomb Raider had low digital sales or "soft" sales.

I'm pretty sure this is just talking about digital sales, which will naturally be higher on pc. We know the x1 version sold over 1m and steamspy has the pc version a little above 500k. Unless ms is completely lying and the game sold less than 200k on x1 or steamspy is only reporting 1/6 of the pc sales, your title is incorrect.

Who's stupid idea was it to pit up RotTR against Fallout day one? Anyway, I'm glad to see that the game found more success on one of the platforms it deserved to release on DAY ONE.

Screw timed exclusivity. What's the point if you're going to release it on other platforms later on? Just to piss people off for a certain amount of time and walk away with the cash handed to you. I don't know anyone who goes out to buy a console when they know it'll come to their own in a matter of months.

bet: lost

Sadly I do. My colleague bought a X1 just because of this game. He's a huge tomb raider fan, and couldn't wait a year to play the game on his PS4. But I agree with you, timed exclusivity is stupid.

Imagine if it was locked to Windows 10 and 10 store, the numbers would be so tiny and unreal.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Obviously the time of launch played a big part here. You either launch a game during the holiday and compete with tons of games or release it when there really aren't any games releasing.

Misleading title. They are only talking about digital sales. Which is not surprising at all, since most PC sales are digital, and most Xbox One sales are physical copies. Would be interesting to see actual numbers of how did the game do on PC.

Good to see its success on both X1 and PC. And it will get another spike on PS4 :).

Because MS helped SE out with funding. Why should the game come out on other platforms if MS had to help the Devs financially? Atleast it is coming out on other platforms unlike the moneyhatted SFV which Sony was supposedly help develope which i call BS on.

Anyway TR is a game worth playing regardless of platform.

Based on what?

OT: Good for Tomb Raider. From what everyone says, it's a fantastic game and I'm glad more people get to play it. I'll probably have to wait until 2017 to play it though.
