Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox One: Where Are The Cons?

So, as I said before, I don't see the cons.

If I am missing something let me know.

By looks of the replies in this thread, you were missing a lot.

I see people always saying each console has it's pros and cons. Well, as for me, I don't see where the cons are in the Xbox One.

There is always room for improvement ofcourse. You can always make a better product. The Xbox One is already a great console that will continue to get better as the years go by.

Hardware:

CPU: 8 Cores capable of handling complex physics and artificial intelligence in parallel.

Currently with directx 11 only one CPU core can talk to the GPU. With directx 12 multiple cores will be able to talk to the GPU.

GPU: 1.32 Teraflops every second, the Xbox One GPU is capable of cinema quality visuals.

Memory: 8 Gigabytes of DDR3 RAM + 32MB of SRAM embedded on the GPU, this custom design was developed to future-proof the Xbox One to take advantage of Microsoft's own developed tile-based rendering technology.

Software:

The Xbox One was built with the future in mind.

Directx 12 will allow for developers to take full advantage of Xbox One capabilities that was previously impossible by using directx 11.

Many games are being delayed as developers see their games performing far better with directx 12.

Whatever genre of game you enjoy from simple puzzle games, to simulators, action and roleplaying games, you can find it on the Xbox One.

Currently Microsoft is working with the top developers all over the world to deliver their vision to the Xbox One, some of which will only be available on the Xbox One, on day one.

Services:

Xbox live defined and continues to redefine online entertainment on consoles. As the years go by this service will only get better as Microsoft is listening and implementing new features with each update to this really cool service.

So, as I said before, I don't see the cons.

If I am missing something let me know.

I think even Phil Spencer himself said that DX12 won't make that much of a difference in XBone's performance.

Lower-end hardware and a lack of variety in games.
I'd also say lack of exlusives but that'd get me murdered....
No japanese games, rarely new ip's from first party (pls note i said rarely, not never)
Often falls short on grand promises (cloud, dx11, xbox/windows functionality such as cross play)
Standard Batteries in controller, #2015...

I suppose those are the big ones. 1 ,2, and 3 is too risky for the market the sell to primarily anyway,
Hardware is unchangeable and just stop making promises on tech that you seemingly forget.
And ffs get rid of batteries bruh

One of my "personal" cons is the lack of 3D platformers. There aren't many of them on any console, but both the Wii U and the PS4 at least have a few good 3D platformers, while to my knowledge, the XBO pretty much has zero.

Well Rare replay includes the first two Banjo Kazooie games and Yooka Laylee will also show up on it next year.  Its not like the 360 or original XBox had a ton of them.

Xbox One is Broken Compared to Xbox 360 for the Littlest Reasons

Posted on December 29, 2015 by Michael in Editorials, Xbox 360, Xbox One // 0 Comments

Xbox One

Next gen gaming was supposed to be revolutionary so why is it when players pick up their Xbox One controllers they have a longing for 360 goodness. The Xbox One is broken compared to what the 360 was or at least it’s a console that has taken a step back rather than forward.

By this time you are probably asking yourself where we are coming from with such little evidence. It boiling down to pure simplicity really. The Xbox One console is odd and has little oddities. Putting aside the fact that it is extremely large; the Xbox One is flawed mechanically.

Players are no stranger to the supposedly competitor console to eject a game then suck the disc right back in. Not every player has experienced this issue but it is a trend to many who bought Xbox One on the day it released. While this can’t be classified as a wide spread problem it still burdens many and puts players in danger of cracking their game disc and potentially damaging inside parts of the console.

Not only does that make players warry of the Xbox One’s little issues but things like games freezing while the dashboard is still in full navigation, achievements erasing, friends lists and feeds being unavailable for long periods of time and other issues leave players wondering where the cool fun simplicity of the 360 took such a wrong turn in next gen gaming.

It’s a wonder if these little Xbox One issues came into play after Microsoft had to make such major changes to their new system after its announcement. Back when the Xbox One was announced players quickly ran to the comfort of Sony because it was clear that Xbox One wasn’t really a gamer’s console. With major focuses being on TV and other forms of entertainment gamers were up in arms about what Microsoft had done to the former lead console. Microsoft response was to fix what they made a mess of and actually offer gamers what they had asked for. What came of one of gaming’s biggest disappointments of all time was the watered down somewhat interesting but major money suck that we now call the Xbox One.

Gaming has quickly become one of the most popular routs of large companies making money. The Xbox One and its flaws fit right in line with that trend. It seems overall unfinished due to the simplest things. It could be as little as an update to fix what’s a miss but being that Xbox One is behind the PS4 they keep trying to fight to regain a crown that they might never have if these little problems prosiest. They can’t ignore what’s broken and present mildly entertaining new games and features and expect to be on top. Not with their biggest competitor one upping them at every corner.

That reminds me. The XB1 Instant-On feature is very unreliable for me. Roughly 50% of the time I am not able to turn my system on with the controller when I enable this feature. So I turned the feature off, which means I have to do a full boot every time I turn the system on. It's incredibly slow but at least it works reliably.

Just because the 360 and the OG Xbox lacked it doesn't mean the XBO lacks it any less

It's a fantastic console but I would say its biggest con is that its predecessor may have been the best console ever built (not talking build quality here :)). The 360 had the specs, games and infrastructure that made it an incredible console. With X1 I actually think they tried a bit to hard, and relied to heavily on the legacy of previous generations games.

Only had mine a month.

So far what has annoyed is the controller using batteries (and not lasting a great deal of time), UI that frequently doesn't load properly and horrendous installation times.

In terms of games, I am only playing console exclusives on X1. I have really enjoyed what I have played so far. However, the options outside of Forza games and shooters is not impressive.

Well, I'm pleased you like your X1.
