As 2015 draws to a close and retail releases are done for the year I decided to take a look back at how my favorite console's library has shaped up over the course of 4 years. That console would be, as the title of this thread suggests, the Playstation Vita.

At first it was going to be a Top 10 list but as I looked at my Vita collection of nearly 115 games it was to difficult to leave some of my favorite games out. As such I enlarged it to a Top 25.

Now obviously this is all my opinion so just because a game isn't on the list doesn't mean I think it's bad. It just means I either think it's not as good as what I've listed, can't get into the genre, or haven't played it. I should also mention that I'm just going over games that got a retail release in North America and that I consider every game listed as a must have in any Vita collection.

So now on with the list! (25-11 just get name and box art 10-1 get a synopsis).

25. Wipout: 2048 (2012)

24. Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed (2012)

23. Persona 4 Dancing All Night (2015)

22. Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls (2015)

21. Need For Speed Most Wanted (2012)

20. Tales of Hearts R (2014)

19. Hot Shots Golf World Invitational (2012)

18. Uncharted Golden Abyss (2012)

17. Ar nosurge Plus (2015)

16. Terraria (2013/2015)

15. Soul Sacrifice (2013)

14. Gravity Rush (2012)

13. LittleBigPlanet PSVITA (2012)

12. The Walking Dead Season 1 and 2 (2013/2014)

11. Final Fantasy X/X-2 (2014)

10. Freedom Wars (2014)

Freedom wars is a game better played with friends. Now don't get me wrong I pretty much beat the game going solo and still felt like it was a fantastic game but where this game (and many others in the genre) really shines is when you play some operations in multiplayer. The action is fast pace which I like compared to other hunting games and the combat is fun to boot. Whenever I'm flying through the air using my thorn either sawwing off an abductors limbs or tearing it to shreds with my Drill Polearm I feel like a bad ass.

9. The Wolf Among Us (2014)

That's right, all three Telltale games made the list and one even made the Top 10! What can I say, even though these game run notoriously bad on Vita I just loved playing them. The reason I love my Vita so much is the fact that I can enjoy game cuddled up in my warm bed with some earbuds on and just get lost in a game with out other distractions. That's exactly how I played The Wolf Among Us and it was a fantastic experience. The story was intense, interesting, it kept me wondering what would happen next not only in the overlying story but also to the characters even though I never gave a crap about fairytales when I was growing up. Telltale definitely went for style over performance on ther Vita games as they LOOK amazing yet run choppy but that should stop you from giving this game a chance.

8. Tearaway (2013)

The thing I liked most about Tearaway is that even though the 3D platformer genre has nearly run it's course with so-so releases like Sly 4 or newer Ratchets and same old same old games like Mario 3D World it tried something different. Instead of collecting stars, running to a goal in time, or beating the crap out of enemies you're on a mission to guide a walking envolope back to it's owner.... you! In Tearaway you literally hold Iota's world in your hands. The Vita itself is a conduit in which you communicate or manipulate the world itself. It's one of the few Vita games that use all of its features and use them WELL. The rear touch pad actually has a useful purpose, the gyros are use in a manner that makes sense and even the cameras are used in a way that adds some fun to the game! The game may be short (about 12 hours to collect everything) but that means it doesn't overstay it's welcome and stays fresh the entire way through the game.

7. Killzone Mercenary (2013)

When the Vita was first announced one of the things people were most excited about was the prospect of the first FPS on a handheld with dual analogue sticks. Unfortunately it was looking bleak after both Resistance and Call of Duty didn't live up to expectations. The consoles seemingly last hope at a truely great FPS rest in the hands of Killzone Mercenary. It delivered. The missions are tailored to playing on a handheld yet it played like a console shooter. The missions could be replayed multiple times due to the fact that you could try to complete them with different goals or restrictions. It's one of the only shooters I've actually enjoyed and oh yeah, it the best looking handheld game so far.

6. Minecraft (2014)

Yup, the game thats been released on every sytem that can run it is very high on my list. Ever since it's release on Vita over a year ago it has found a way to control my life to this day. Even though I also own this game on both PC and PS4 I always find myself playing on Vita becuase it just feels right. By now everyone should know what Minecraft is and why it's great so I won't ramble but I will say this; other than maybe PC, the Vita is hands down the best way to play Minecraft.

5. Steins;Gate (2015)

Probably the most surprising game on this list for me personally is Steins;Gate. When I bought it I knew people thought it was good but I really didn't know why. Luckily I didn't investigate because that allowed me to go into this game almost completely blind. The story starts out slow and wierd but gradually turns into a dramatic thriller where I stayed up until 5 AM because I didn't want to stop playing/reading. The best part about the game though has to be it's main character. I won't spoil anything but at first he bugged the crap out of me yet as the game went on I actually began to like the dude and really care about what happens to him. Anyone with a Vita owes it to themeselve to experience such an awesome game.

4. The Legend of Heroes: Trials of Cold Steel (2015)

Now I'll admit, I've only played this game for 10 hours since it only came out 4 days ago but already I can tell it has it's place among the best games Vita has to offer. Like every other Falcom game in existance Cold Steel has a God Tier soundtrack and fun gameplay to compliment said music. The characters also seem to be fairly interesting even though they are very cliche at a glance. We'll see after I beat the game where this truely stands in the Vita's library but so far it seems like it's only getting better.

3. Ys: Memories of Celceta (2013)

Two Falcom games released in the west on Vita, two Falcom games in my Top 5. Like Trails of Cold Steel, Ys has kick ass music and fantastic gameplay. The difference is that Ys is an action RPG not a turn based one. You roam around the world beating the shit out of anything that moves with your trusty sword. The combat is fluid, fast paced, and most of all FUN. The addition of guarding and dodging also make this the best playing Ys IMO. Like any RPG you level up Adol, get stronger weapons, do quests, and learn better and more powerful attacks. People like to make the story feel insignificant but I think it adds to the game not bog it down. If you've never played an Ys game and own a Vita you should go out and buy a copy ASAP.

2. Danganronpa 1 and 2 (2014)

I decide to group both Danganronpa releases together for the purpose of this list because, like The Walking Dead, I feel that if you play the first game you should play second. I really didn't know what to expect going into these games. I heard they were like Ace Attorney with court syle trials but it was also like Persona with a school setting and relationship building elements. Sounded like a wierd combonation and I was right, this game IS wierd. You get trapped in a school by a mechanical teddy bear and are told the only way you can leave is to kill a fellow student. However once a murder occurs there will be an investigation on who the murderer was and if they are found out in the class trial THEY DIE. Like brutally murdered, dead.

As you play through the game(s) you begin wondering what's happening in the outside world and while some questions are answered in the first game it does end on a cliff hanger. Hence why playing the second game is a must to get a better idea of what the hell is going on. Once again this is the perfect game to crawl under a blanket with some nice headphones and cringe when you found out the events of these school kids lives. Also the OST is phenomenal and fits the tone of the game perfectly.

1. Persona 4 Golden (2012)

There should be no surprise what game was going to be number 1. Persona 4 Golden is not only Vita's best game but it's the best game I've ever played on ANY console period. It's a long game, taking me 90 hours to beat it my first time through, but even then the game felt too short. The story is great, the characters felt real, the combat is rewarding, and the music never gets old. The added content that's not included in the original means that anyone who settles for vanilla P4 is selling themeselves short. This is so far the only game that had me emotional at the end not because of the ending per se it's because I didn't want my year in Inaba to be over.

This game is a masterpiece and should be the played by anyone who calls themselves a "gamer", even if it means buying a Vita to play it.

Hopefully this list sheds some light on how great the Vita's library actually is and for those that have a Vita hopefully you get to play some of these great games! And here's to a great 2016, just not for my wallet!

I was going to kill you if Persona 4: Golden wasn't No. 1

Very nice collection!

One game I would put on there that you didn't would be Virtue's Last Reward.

Ys is the best game on Vita that i've played so far. Nice list.

Well I'm glad I ordered Trails of Cold Steel then! It's been getting some great reviews.

You really doubled down on the vita. Vita is a good system for obscure japanese games. If that's your jam, bully for you.

Thanks for the list, I really wonder about steins gate. I just have no idea what the game is about.

Aside from Freedom Wars, i think its a decent list.

I still can't belive that ending on Freedom Wars. Its just like it ended half way in.

Next Year the Vita still will have huge support Toukiden 2, Dead or Alive extreme 3, Gundam, Atelier to name a view games.
By the way OP have you played deception 4 on the vita?

Nice thread. Tagged.
