Forums - Gaming Discussion - Buy PS4/X1 now, or wait for NX?

What to do?

Wait for NX 90 31.91%

Wait for PS5 41 14.54%

Wait for Xbox 2 8 2.84%

Wait for everything 31 10.99%

Buy this plastic box 78 27.66%

Buy that other plastic box 34 12.06%

Total:282

Personally, I'll be waiting. Not because I expect the NX to be amazing, but because there just isn't anything to entice me about the PS4 of XBone right now. I know I'll buy the NX pretty much no matter what, so I might as well wait. If it has multiplatform games, then it will eliminate my need for other consoles. If not, then the price of a PS4 will be lower by then anyway.

People here just love to jump the gun and parrot "PS4" without reading the OP, don't they?

So, is it for FFXV and FFVII or you like the genre? Since your friends are there, if you are only on it for those two, I'd say a XONE, since we are also playing FFXV, but if you're interested on JRPGs other than those two, then I'd recommend a PS4 since it seems to be the PlayStation 4's staple...

FF specifically. Not the biggest JRPG nut, but FF is a series I've always loved.

It just bothers me that X1 is coming up short lately in multiplat performance and I fear that's a gap that's only going to widen. FF15 demo for X1 did NOT technically look anywhere near as good as PS4. Not sure how games will run on X1 2017 and beyond... Not harping on X1, but it's not positioned as well as 360 was in it's time.

If FF does indeed makes a grand a return to the Nintendo platform and runs best on NX, that's where I want to be...

It seems like it will not last as long as the PS4 will, but the performance gap has been closing down save for a few studios actually. It deals a lot with optimization, since Avalanche proved the XONE can run a game and might actually be able to run it better on the XONE (Mad Max did it). No worries though, it's just that I also thought that you might enjoy gaming with your friends. I do...

Should you plan on waiting, upgrading the RAM of your PC alone might provide you with a brief respite for most games. That said, I'd be wary of the NX since odds are that it will be outperformed by the next gen PS and Xbox...

Easily PS4, I bought one because it has the best software support out there and is guaranteed a decent lengthy lifecycle. I love my Wii U, but Nintendo virtually pulling the plug around its third year has left a sour taste for me. I have no confidence in them anymore so NX is a no go for me, I also dont see much third party support for NX even if it has beefed up specs.

It's clear from the OP's responses that

  ...

I don't think I've ever seen this much anguish in my life that OP would want us to plead so much for the NX or justify his preference ...

Since your getting aggressive, I won't hold back one bit! I don't think I've been this motivated before to take advantage of the hopelessness LOL ...

"The NX will get FFXV!" "The NX will get FF VIIR' "The NX will get *insert your other favourite 3rd party game from the HD twins*!" Nothing you say here will reflect the reality and even your own kind (Nintendo fans) turned against you ...

How many more statements are you going to keep making with empty hope ?! HAHAHA ...

Realistically NX won't get multiplats because Nintendo hasn't had good 3rd party support since SNES and their online network is bad, and it isn't likely to push alot of units or atleast more than current gen, lets be real man. Doubt NX will have good 3rd party support so I would go with PS4 since it has great 3rd party exclusives (Persona 5, Star Ocean 5, Tales of Berseria, Nier, ect) as well as decent 1st party. DOUBT Nintendo cares about specs in genera as N64 had cartriges, GC had mini discs, and Wii U and Wii were behind the other consoles in power, If you won't build a PC wait for the Next consoles or get a PS4 for FFXV. I'm pretty hype for Final Fantasy as well.

content on either the ps4 or Xbone is really only just starting to get half decent and, it will at least another 12 months until the content truly justifies the purchase (at least in my eyes). I would wait to at least hear what Nintendo announce, I don't hold much hope for their announcement but you have nothing to lose by waiting a bit if you can.

PS4 is obvious answer, it is gaming till next gen starts and after.

As far as nx it will be either a hybrid with wiiu like power or it will be dead on arrival. 2016 is possibly the worst year possible for Nintendo to release new hardware aimed at any sort of competing with PS4. Nintendo will not be able to build a user base fast enough big enough for 3rd party to show real support.

So being honest, get the NX because you are a Nintendo fan and stick with and upgrade your PC because you are a Ps xbox hater. This sums it all up right.

Lol, wow. This guy sure has ruffled up some feathers with this thread. Well done, hahaha!

Get PS4 for $299 holiday sale, or wait until E3 to figure out what you want. As Rol would tell you even when Nintendo is dominating 3rd parties may still ignore them.

Most coherent reasoning I have yet to see so far in this thread.

Surprised so many here are still convinced NX will be weaker than PS4/X1.

I think it will be stronger, but does it matter? 3rd partys need strong relationships with Nintendo to release more games for it. Gamecube was the strongest in its gen and its 3rd party was very poor compared with the PS2 and Xbox. Wii was dominating and still had less 3rd party support.

No, the gamecube wasn't the strongest, that was the xbox. Gamecube was in the middle, with the ps2 being the weakest. The gamecube e actually got great support for much of its life, getting most 3rd party multiplatform games. The Wii was just too different and way too weak to get multiplatform games. But, I agree with you about the current state of nintendo and 3rd parties: they're not going to really support the nx, whatever it is, and regardless of its power.
