Forums - Sales Discussion - Rise of Tomb Raider XBox1 = sales dud of the year?

Everytime Microsoft makes exclusivity deals publishers fails to make good profits. Everytime Sony does, like Black Ops 3 or Star Wars, it is a good deal.

I don't care if this game flops. That will teach them not making bad decisions.

Every time? That is not true. How is Sony's deal with Activistion any different for the one Microsoft had with them last generation?

Considering the hype, promotion and critical success you have to say these sales are very bad.

Well, there's the holidays around the corner so it'll be interesting to see what will be done then.

This will teach Phil to not be so nice about disclosing deals. Trying to be everyone's friend won't win the console wars, bitch. 😔

So being hated by everyone wins console wars?

You don't see the heads of PlayStation saying timed exclusive titles they made deals with will be going to competitors consoles, do you? Like almost right after they struck the deal, they disclosed their exclusive terms. Just because the other team was crying foul. That was the moment that Tomb Raider lost the potential to be a console seller.

so , SF:V need to die too ?

Its releasing on PC same day and PS4 has user base along so it will do great sales even there is no XB1 version. Also SF V happening next year beacsue of Sony support in development otherwise capcom would not made this game for another 2+ years which is not same case with Tomb raider and SE.

I'm talking about 8th generation.

3DS, Wii, PSP, Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4 & Steam.

Well, I don't think anyone really expected much more. Square Enix most probably got the whole production financed by Microsoft, if not more, so they ought to be good. Just remember, Microsoft paid 50 million back in the days for timed exclusive GTA4 DLC, which covered pretty much the whole development costs. They have deep enough pockets. I can imagine Microsoft to expect more out of this, but that's just silly. Especially with how they handled PR.

Tanking a franchise like this to get the game funded doesn't seem smart. What you want is for a franchise to get more and more sales

Usually, the timed exclusives on PS4 have been saying "First to Playstation" when announced. Phil said nothing about when RotTR was coming to PS4 or PC, that info was revealed by S/E. I'm sure that was more egged on by regret and pre-order numbers than anything.

Its probably the game the least deserving of such low sales this year maybe even this whole gen. Its a very good game, released in a very bad time and amid very bad business practice.

It should not have been an exclusive and it should not have launched at this time. Summer 16 would have been the perfect release window.

Theres nothing wrong with 3rd party exclusives, but doing it at the expence of another userbase is silly. Its almost like penalizing you for not owning the right system. Whether its exclusive content or a game that was once was multiplatform now only on one platform. Its silly.

Unfortunately it had to have been MS that gets caught up in this shit. Sony do it all the time and have gotten away with it thus far.

I don't think it's justified as a dud or THE dud but it all depends on what people want to see.
The media outrage surely didn't help sales but we also have to consider the strong competition this game had and has.
We should wait for final judgements. Generally I think the game deserves way more sales. It looks absolutely amazing and got very good reviews as well.
