Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Witcher 3 vs Fallout 4 - Gameplaywise

Which game has the better gameplay?

Fallout 4 67 29.39%

The Witcher 3 160 70.18%

Total:227

I've played both at some length; my vote easily goes to The Witcher 3. People complaining about the controls are just used to games that are too simple (like Skyrim and Fallout...).
Get TW3 now and enjoy the best RPG of the generation (imo) and wait for Fallout 4 and perhaps they've even fixed it by the time you get it.

Yup, compared to Fallout 3 (haven't played 4 yet), I prefer the Witcher 3 gameplay.

Exactly this.

I don't understand the complaints some here have with the controls (and some of those complaints comes from people I doubt have played the actual game in the first place, but that's an other story). Controls are tight, and some battles are really challenging on higher difficulties. You need to be smart and patient with some enemies, carefully using your potions, bombs, oils and signs, along with waiting for the right opening for swordplay.

The Witcher 3 stands easily at the top of this gen's RPG list. It might not allow you to do as many useless things as in Fallout 4, but what it does, and the way it does it, is damn near flawless. Plus, the main story is actually really compelling compared to Fallout 4, and its side quests are all fleshed out in unique ways, with proper backstory, and many of them affect the rest of the game in some capacity depending on the way you handle things.

Truly a masterpiece, and a great achievement for CD Project RED, especially considering it is their very first open world game yet they managed to outclass just about every other devs with long track record of making such games.

You guys are right... The Witcher 3 should be pretty cheap right now. I think i'll get it while they fix Fallout 4 and the price falls.

Could not get into Witcher, opening was boring and annoying. Much prefer FAllout4, seems more fun.

The Witcher 3 bored me to tears until I gave up on it. And I probably put a few hundred hours into Skyrim (PC, with loads of mods over the years).

However, most people feel that Witcher 3 was an excellent game overall.

To get a taste for it, perhaps you could get the Witcher 2 if you missed it. It is probably super cheap by now in comparison, and from what I remember about it, I liked it better than 3 (caveat being that I gave up on W3 after a few hours).

Depends on what you prefer, for me Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 are not really comparable, apart from 'open-world' and 'RPG' labels.

If you're looking for a solid story and memorable characters set in open world with stronger RPG focus, pick W3.
If you're looking for open-world with some story and FPS with RPG elements (calling FO4 an RPG is really a stretch) pick FO4.

I prefer Witcher 3 to FO4, but then again I have strong feelings about what Bethesda did with Fallout IP in FO3 and especially in FO4.

I'm not asking you to compare them. I'm just asking which gameplay is more fun.

Well, I´m the only one that has said that so this is pretty obviously a false accusation against me only because I found TW3 controls boring. I have The Witcher 3, I don´t like it, I have Fallout 4, I like it. Get over it. Controls are weak, combat is dull, and I´m not the only one who thinks that, it was one of the most criticized things about the game, if some cool sidequests made you forget about it, cool for you, It didn´t for me, but don´t accuse me of nothing just because I've enjoyed the other more, and not only because the controls, I found F4 being a much better open world over all.

The Witcher 3 is cheaper now and after 10 major patches pretty stable with a lot of improvements over the launch version.

I'm currently hooked more on Fallout 4 than I was on TW3. TW3 has superior story telling both in main and side quests, although the quality does go down a bit towards the end. Fallout 4 is great too, yet a bit familiar after playing the previous entries. You do have more freedom to tackle quests in F4. Don't want to bother with a quest, murder everyone to get what you want. TW3 is very restrictive in who you can kill.

Fallout 4 has the superior open world, more interesting, more diverse and the settlement building is actually quite a lot of fun. The Witcher 3 got very samey in the open world department with lots of repetitive ? locations and contracts. It does feature 2 full different open world locations and a few smaller ones.

Inventory management was a pain in TW3 yet that's mostly fixed with lots of short cuts added and ingredients don't add to the weight anymore. In Fallout 4 you'll be hitting the weight limit a lot now that junk items all serve a purpose. Both are absolutely bloated with loot, TW3 wins in sheer amount of loot able items.

Crafting is easier and more versatile in Fallout 4. Yet hunting for recipes and templates in TW3 added another reason to explore everything in sight. Plus you craft better versions of your spells in TW3. It's just a bit lacking in the armor and weapon department. In F3 I've already made some crazy sniper rifles, custom deep pocketed armor and some crazy looking melee weapons.

F4 has the different perks to define your character (and unlock more upgrades). TW3, you just need a higher level to be able to craft better items and defeat higher level enemies. The amount of damage you do and receive is based more on the level difference than anything else. It's also very easy to out level quests in TW3. I haven't played F4 long enough to see what effect level has on enemies. (I'm lvl 15 after 35 hours, taking my time)

Movement was sluggish in TW3 yet maybe that's fixed too. I find moving around in Fallout 3 a lot more responsive even with the dips to 25fps. Plus you get to choose between 1st and 3rd person in F4. TW3 is 3rd person only. Swimming is simple but just works in F4, it was annoying in TW3.

Both games are glitchy yet TW3 has the benefit of 10 patches by now. The save system in F4 is better. Multiple auto save slots, near instant quick save (also multiple slots).

Anyway what do you prefer
- Fantasy or Sci-fi
- Swords or guns
- Horse or dog
- Follow a story or create your own

Create your own character from scratch, do what ever you want and build your own place to live.

Me in my penthouse suite of the 5 story hotel I build in Sanctuary.

Or become Geralt and get to know a set of very interesting characters in a colorful world

Part of the Skellig isles, awesome map to explore.
