Being similar to A Link to the Past doesn't change the fact that it's a new game though. Otherwise quite a few sequels such as Super Mario Bros. 2 (Lost Levels) and Final Fantasy X-2 would all of a sudden not count.

I haven't played SMB Lost Levels? Did they reuse the entire world from the original. Like  Ctrl C 'ed it? I can't comment on that because I'm not familiar with either of the games you referenced. I believe I provided sufficient reasoning for why I am upset and why any fan of the series should be.

ha.  i don't think you have sufficient reason to be upset.  Not sure how long you've been around nintendo, but about 5 years between zelda games on home console is normal as each game usually uses a new engine.  There are a few exceptions, like zelda II and majoras mask. ww to tp was 3-1/2 as well, but the wii was a very similar console to the gamecube so that probably put them ahead of schedule in that instance.  I've gotten used to the release schedule and have yet to be dissapointed with a 3d zelda game.  It may be frustrating, but for me it's always worth the wait.  Also, referring to your mention of hyrule warriors, i don't believe most people consider a port a re-release of a game.  If you have a 3ds but no wii-u then this is a new game to you.  That being said, i definately don't call it a zelda game.  I am, however, with you that lbw is a remix.  Same levels, same bosses.  It does add a new mechanic making it a somewhat new game, but i understand what your saying in a practical manner.

Bottom line; don't get to antsy.  Good games are worth the wait with the polish they get.  There's a reason fallout 4 has so much hype around it after being gone for so long.  good games take time.  Any additional revenue nintendo earns with re-releases may in fact help towards the making of a new zelda so i'm good.

The fact that we're looking at a 5 year gap between Skyward Sword and the next new console Zelda is, frankly, unacceptable.

Nintendo's production pipeline is grossly inefficient if it takes them half a decade to produce a single game. Yes, I know, Twilight Princess to Skyward Sword was 5 years also, but that was no more forgiveable. It's like Aonuma derails the entire production to go chasing after every little idea that wanders into his head.

Naughty Dog can produce three Uncharted games and The Last of Us over a 6 year span. 343i can go from Halo 4 to Halo 5 in 3 years. Santa Monica can go from God of War 3 to Ascension in 3 years. Rockstar can go from GTA4 to Red Dead in 2 years, then to GTA5 in another 3. Guerilla can go from Killzone 2 to Killzone 3 in 2 years, then to Shadowfall in another 2 years.

There is no excuse for the Zelda team to have gone 4 years without turning out a new game.

Wait a minute. People are complaining about how Nintendo spends a long time to make each new Zelda game a masterpiece rather than releasing annual versions of the game with minimal improvement or innovation each year like so many other publishers? Yikes. Be careful what you wish for.

Haters gonna hate, dude. Welcome to the Internet.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

Ignoring the obvious trolling, I am a bit alarmed by how hard they've been milking Zelda lately. There are nearly as many Nintendo-Affiliated Zelda launches in the last five years (from 2011-2016) as there were in the 25 years before that.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I'm sorry about the few bad apples in this thread, but this needs to be said. Nintendo fans sometimes get defensive when people call the wiiu a last gen console with the 360 and ps3, but they do seem to be making the same mistakes that the hd twins made 8 years ago. The annualization of the LoZ franchise is an obvious example of this. But what is even more insulting is that these games are ones I bought over ten years ago. Literally the same game from ten years ago. Games available for sale on their virtual console. Games that can still be played through backwards compatibility...

As of the Nintendo Direct two days ago, Zelda U is confirmed for 2016, so it has a clear release window.

I tried to embed the video, but if it didn't work here is the link below. Go to the very end of it, 3:40.

Absolutely none of those games comes remotely close to what is demanded of an open world Zelda game. They aren't comparable at all. Most of those games aren't open world, and the few that are do not have anywhere near the variety and complexity of level design required of a game like Zelda. You don't see games anywhere that have the kinds of demands this game has from a design perspective.

You really think a Zelda game is going to be more demanding in terms of scope and complexity than anything else on the market? Seriously?

Let's be honest, they could have gotten in done by now, and indeed they planned to, (see the original 2015 release date) but Aonuma started chasing butterflies and derailing production, just like he did with Skyward Sword.

Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed these remakes and remasters as much as I have other remakes on other consoles. They've all been very quality, as have the games. It's the principle of there being ten Zeldas in five years. In their struggles they've put way too much weight in Zelda, so much so that it's become as bad as Mario in that regard, but with less genre variety. With series like FE, Splatoon, etc. taking off, that'll surely change, but for now it's been sort of a black spot in the series, even if the games listed have probably improved in overall quality with the increased frequency.
