Way to misquote, IGNorant idiots.

Here's how you do an article: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/gabe-newell-valves-steam-machines-outperform-conso/1100-6432041/

What did they misquote, exactly? If you're talking about the title, you probably meant misinterpret/clickbate-alize.

bet: lost

This doesn't sound like it will outperform consoles

$450 for Intel Core i3 Dual-Core processor, an NVIDIA Geforce GTX with 2GB of GDDR5 memory, 4GB of DDR3L system RAM

That seems to be the cheapest, does that include a controller?
For a product supposedly going on sale in 4 days, where are the details?

I'm going to bet hat guy but why the hell do we need a PC vs consoles thread like every single week, it happens practically either every week or 2 weeks with some sort of news brought up to incite one system vs another (because at this point and by userbase on this site it's definitely one userbase pitted against another, the other two already know where they stand).

The higher models will outperform consoles but I don't expect the cheapest ones to outperform them entirely. But I suppose we could go for the easiest target and say they all can't (because that's exactly what's going to be spammed over and over).

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I should probably watch the video because I can't help but think the OP is doing that whole pseudo journalistic click bait tactic to incense with out of context summarizations.

But dollar for dollar; no, they won't. The intro price for a new PS4 and XBO is now $350. And $350 buys garbage in new PC hardware.

Of course Valve would say something to this effect; it's their platform and they have everything to lose if it fails or underperforms.

It's the same thing as Nvidia claiming consoles are dead (back in 2012-13) when AMD received both contracts for the PS4 and XBO. Of course they're going to say the hardware for which they are not making any money off of because they don't have any contracts to provide parts for them are a dead end.

I love the Steam Box concept and if I want a dedicated gaming PC, I'll probably go the pre-baked route if I can't build a better spec box for less (seems unlikely given scale of economy on pre-fab boxes which explain why one can't build a console for less than one can buy one for at retail), but I'm not going to pretend for an instant that the entry models/minimum investment are going to give me the hardware performance that I would demand if I was building it myself.

They wrote Gabe "says" this that, which he didn't. I figure that's a misquote though I may be wrong. And yes, IGNs click baiting is way out of hand. Shameful.

The issue with SteamBox is that it's licensed hardware functionally (I don't think hardware manufacturers are paying anything per box to Valve to run SteamOS), but not using standardized parts, so prices and specs will vary from vendor to vendor even when comparing "comparable" price tiered models.

I suppose one could just google "cheapest Steam Machine" and see what kind of specs that buys and for how much.

Bollocks.

Alienware's $450 Steam machine is the cheapest one, and that 860M inside it is not faster than PS4's GPU (close in some games, but note there really).

It is faster that XOne though, so they're only Half-Lying.

Seems like they are still completely lying, because they said for the same price and $450 is not the same price as $350.

But it is very possible that I could switch to Steam Machine in the next generation if there are no PS franchises that carry me over to the 9th gen. It may come down to price at the time.
