It isn't just a matter of power.
NX can be a visibly more powerful console than PS4 by 2016, but more important than that, what they need is create a market for 3rd parties and that won't happen with Mario, Zelda, etc.
For example, had Splatoon been a launch title and more copies of CoD games would have sold on Wii U because Splatoon would have brought in more shooter fans at that time.

If they can create several games in the FPS, 3PS, Racing, etc. genres, that will create a different image of what NX "stands for"; if they manage to create a library full of the great Nintendo franchises + 3rd party type of games i doubt that 3rd parties wouldn't be willing to give it a more serious change and gamers alike.
It would be the console with the best of both worlds.

If you look at past generations you'll see that the newcomers never went after Nintendo's market, they all went for a more cool/adult gamer approach. Not because Nintendo was unbeatable, but because they realized that the real market was untapped and never truly bothered to (also) go after Nintendo's market. In other words, between the two markets, Sega, Sony, MS, all went the Nintendo route and it paid off (Sega had more managing problems than anything else).

About what i said, a smaller shape does give the impression of an even more underpowered home console. An image Nintendo can live without!

In the past, I said Nintendo had two options for the future: either manage to get enough 3rd parties back on their systems, or expand and get more developers to produce more 1st party content and avoid droughts. I still think Nintendo should have gotten more studios and employees (why they did't buy Atlus or THQ when they were on sale, I'll never know), but in a market so controlled by 3rd party multiplats (CoD, GTA, BF, Fifa, Minecraft...) Nintendo needs to get at least 1/3 or 1/4 of the support the PS4 gets, or most consumers won't even consider it. This is for the home console market, Nintendo is way more secure on the handheld area, but with mobile on the rise, you never know.

Nintendo needs, at least, a franchise on every big genre. Splatoon was a great first step, now I would like to see them explore new areas, like the action-exploration-adventure game like FarCry or Tomb Raider. Also, if you're not going to have the go-to sports titles (and you SHOULD), make at least either a solid sport spinoff like Mario Strikers or Tennis, or a very deep sport game of your own, maybe Mii Soccer, Mii Basketball and Mii Rugby, per example. Make them so good they will put EA sports to shame.

@DeloPT: Ehh... What are you smoking? Look, if you can't even hold your fans, you're really fucked up. Usually you're supposed to keep a hold on your own market and then expand. This is why Wii had sequels to every Gamecube game that was anything remotedly popular. This is why it took so long for Sony MS to try to co-opt Wii, because of their fears to lose the market they already had.

What they have done with Wii U? Almost all of the games that were popular on Wii and have sequels on Wii U have just their content recycled. If you thought white Wii was cool (this was one of Wiis selling points) and would like a Wii U in a same colour, you end up getting a gimped console that you end up paying more than you would pay for the other version.

Now, Nintendo fans are definately in the core market just like every other manf. fans are. Nintendo seems to try to appeal the non-Nintendo core market at the cost of Nintendo core market. Nintendo likely expected that the third parties would be jumping on Wii U while expecting for it to sell like hotcakes because Wii did too. The problem is, that Nintendo is way too focused on the core gamer segment, and even in that segment, the big hitters are nowhere.
No 3D Mario
No Zelda
No Metroid

While there are a number of 2D platformers, they're all results of Nintendo noticing their strategy being fucked and the need of making something to cash in with.

I don't really think Splatoon at launch would help to appeal to the Call of Duty crowd, ya they are both online multiplayer focused shooting games but they are so different from one another that I don't think they have the crossover appeal u make it out to be. That's like saying having Mario Kart at launch would help sales of Need for Speed or Smash Bros at launch would have helped Tekken Tag Tournament 2 or Injustice sell better.

I was thinking... since Iwata passing out, could they have changed some plans regarding the NX reveal/release? Maybe it's not coming holiday 2016/revealed at beggining of the year as we thought it would. Maybe it will have a E3 2016 reveal and a 2017 launch? I'm really lost regarding the NX right now...



Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I agree with DélioPT Nintendo need to grow up with their fans and not just target the same audience over and over. I'm not saying abandon their popular IP's, but add to them.
Give the old (as in mature) nintendo fans a reason to be interested again.

Thanks to mods for taking strong and bold decision. It seems NX related spamming finally get their nerves. It users posted actual information then this might not have happened.
