Resident Evil 4, but Eternal Darkness is a very close 2nd place! It's a shame the spiritual successor will never come out..

Scariest game I've played yet is ZombiU seriously that game is intense as he'll when you get into it. Fatal frame 5 is out too. Slender the arrival ahem... arrives soon too. By the way which console in particular?

I've just picked up Outlast on ps4 for my Halloween fix and then fatal frame 5 next Friday and Halloween is all set for me :)

I want to have a game lined up for halloween.  My dorm has a WIIU, Wii, N64, and SNES.

I also have a PS4  and PC,  but those aren't nintendo...

Then I'm gonna be brutally honest here because alot off people are suggesting Resident Evil. Thing is although Resident Evil franchise are great games they aren't scary in the slightest, they weren't when I was 10 years old and they aren't now.

Only three games have given me a sense of dread. Zombiu by far the worst, had some real panicked shit myself moments, followed by Condemned Criminal origins (360) and then Slender the arrival(ps4)

You have Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem and Resident Evil 1 and 0 in Gamecube, Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the moon, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Dead Rising: Chop till you drop in the Wii, ZombiU on WiiU...and I'll think of more later.

Fragile is one of the most beautiful, moving games I've ever played, but I wouldn't quite call it survival horror. It's got a more lonely/melancholy tone for the most part.

I place my vote behind Eternal Darkness and Resident Evil 0/1/4 for the GameCube, and ZombiU for Wii U. All excellent choices.

There's also a remake of Fatal Frame 2 and a sort-of remake of Silent Hill on Wii, as well as Manhunt 2 (which comes pretty close to counting as well). I wouldn't say they're quite as good, but they're worth a look. Maybe read up on them on Wikipedia and see if they sound like your kind of thing.

I've heard Cursed Mountain is good, though I haven't gotten a chance to play it yet.

No.  I would not recommend this game at all.  It does have a unique atmosphere that is done very well, but that is all the game has going for it.  The game has no scares.  A little cut scene introduces enemies everytime one appears, so you always know if there is one there or not.  You are able to regain some health everytime you defeat an enemy, so I ended up with over 30 unused health items by the end of the game.  The moves to do this are motion controlled, and they can be tricky until you figure out what the game is looking for.  The game does have a couple good levels toward the end of the game (the ice cave was pretty awesome).  But otherwise it starts off very slowly and it is a slog to play through.

Ugh, lame.  Glad I only spent ten bucks on it.

Resident Evil 4, Wright told me its one of the best games ever made!

The best survival horror game on Gamecube, Wii, PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360 is Resident Evil 4. However, a very honorable mention goes to Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem for Gamecube.

Most people will say Resident Evil Remake but the original on PS1 is the way that game is suppose to be experienced so, I will go with Zombie-U.

I got it cheap too.  Defintely not worth a full $50, but ok for a budget price.  Might as well play it since you have it.  I would say it was worth the $10 you spent.

I just don't think it belongs anywhere near a discussion of "Best Survival Horror Game".
