SNES was certainly a success. Just because it didnt sell as much as the NES, it sold more consoles than it's competitor. 3DS had a rough launch but considering it has sold a plenty and steamrolls it's competitor I would say it certainly doesnt qualify as a "failure". It just happend to succeed one of the most succesful consoles of all time.

SNES sold more than the competitor after the gen had ended... when PS1 entered the market they were still below Genesis... and I said It wasn't very sucesfull, it lost a lot of marketshare and total sales had dropped.

I didn't said neither SNES or 3DS were failures, but if you look at their predecessors sales they didn't do much good... read my first line on the previous post... and 3DS sold less than 40% of what DS had done, that is quite the drop... a lot of people try to say PS3 was an utter failure because it didn't reach 60% of what PS2 had... so how wouldn't 3DS be even a bigger failure? PSP being completely destroyed don't make 3DS look good, when they are selling bellow even PSP.

thats all relative, if you compare it to maybe the next handheld wich only sells 10 million units its successfull xD its less successfull than its predecessors, doesnt mean its doing quite well.

If all the game apps just vanished RIGHT NOW, iPhone and iPad sales wouldn't miss a beat.  Because they are in no way even close to being the core of that market.

You're probably right when it comes to iPhones, but not so sure about iPads - it's old and somewhat limited research, but it seems that 79% of people owning them play games on them.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/apple/8574997/Apple-iPad-usage-habits-infographic.html

I have no doubt a huge percentage of people with iPhone and iPad products play games on them.  But there is a difference between playing games on a device and owning a device for that exact purpose.  I would wager that the vas majority of people are playing them because they are either really cheap or free; it's a matter of convenience and simplicity.

Some people want to believe cell phones and the like will totaly substitute Consoles and Hand held... they will probably move a lot of the casuals to there, but the real market and most of the games buyers will stay.. quite possibly the tie ratio will raise a lot.

my object was just point that when version sales drop gen-to-gen they drop the name... when it rises they keep

My first impression was that this was to prepare people to NX.

Nintendo is red

They've indisputably been in the red during the 3DS and Wii U generation, at least.

ok

how is 3DS failure? it sold over 50 millions, thats alot in my book, very profitable

When you drop to less than 40% of your previous version it isn't very sucessfull...

How many other 3D devices took that much market share? Looking at it like that, it was WILDLY successful.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

How many Bluray consoles had in 7th gen? Then PS3 was wildly succesful (and it did had 3D)... on its time then Virtual Boy was a Beast. And how many retro consoles there is this gen? Then Ouya is a success.

Thats.....very interesting actually.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

That might just be in certain countries. Those shops look like they're probably from China or Africa.
