Forums - Sales Discussion - if Sony drops the price will Microsoft follow?

I dont see the xbox one winning NPD if Sony drops the ps4 @350$, i think MS could drop the price to 300$ in order to compete. Nothing is announced yet but phill didnt comment how xbox would react to a ps4 pricedrop.

Either Microsoft drops the price alongside the PS4, or he arranges bundles so good they can compete with the PS4 pricedrop. Either way, Microsoft will react.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I don't know. I really doubt they'll be able to sell at a profit at 300$. Heck, I'm not even sure if they're breaking even at 350$, so it might be a tough loss to swallow.

PS4 is beasting but given the fall lineup I hardly see it ahead of the Xbone in october/november NPD, pricedrop or not.

So MS doesn't need to follow this year IMO.

October I could understand, due to Halo, but November? Sony has the Battlefront bundle and marketing rights, CoD marketing rights (an the inevitable bundle). If the two consoles are sold at the same price it's gonna be hard for MS to win november.

I don't think MS should just throw away the profits they would get from holidays just for market share and to possibly win a NPD or two. It's already lost the gen, might as well make some from money from it and make the gamers happy that already bought the console with new games.

I don't think so, at least not for a while. The XB1 is already extremely cheaper now, compared to when it first launched.I know it's been almost 2 years, but most consoles don't get such a massive reduction in price for at least the first 3. I personally think MS went a little too ahead of the curve, and now has to hold off for a bit so as to maintain their profits.

Yep. This is pretty much the now or never year for MS with a new Halo out there. The Xbox has been a cash burning project since it was conceived, why stop now? MS seems pretty determined not to take a complete L with the Xbox in their home turf at least. I suppose they still want to keep the brand attractive.

Hard to know, they could either want profits and keep the price... Or go full competitive and drop it just because PlayStation is doing it.

Aren't CoD and Battlefield more successful on Xbox usually ?

I expect Tomb Raider to be quite big, Fallout 4 too (Bethesda games usually ony do good on xbox as far as home consoles are concerned) and a few games released previously should have an effect (forza 6, gow hd).
