Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should EA continue to ignore Nintendo?

Unfortunately it's more of a demographic issue, Sony and Microsoft have really just eaten up the entire sports demographic, and Nintendo is really not a big player in that, and this isn't anything new, from the GameCube onwards Nintendo sports games have sold very poorly compared to their PS/XBox cousins.

But I do think EA will give NX some support at launch. Nothing mind blowing, but ports of Madden and FIFA I think they will have to test the waters.

If anyone is to blame it's really Microsoft. Before the XBox, sports games used to sell OK/decent on Nintendo platforms, but since XBox came into the market, it just pushed Nintendo consoles completely out of this demographic.

That being said, EA shouldn't have the kind of near monopoly it has over many sports rosters. I know it's a bit off topic, but it's unfair. That shouldn't be allowed to happen at all, because it absolutely stops competition. Imagine if Call of Duty was the only military shooter out because Activision gained an exclusive deal for 10 years to use real country names, and no one wants to buy a military game with pretend countries. That's what EA is doing with many sports games, and that's why you don't see any competition in those kinds of games. It's just Madden. It's just Fifa or that Konami game. That shouldn't be.

That's why EA's exclusive sports deals are an issue. We can't even say "Nintendo should make their own, better, sports sims" because EA has exclusive rights to almost all the names.

Well they could have for NBA, MLB, NHL, I guess. EA does not hold exclusivity over those. These days though with development costs being what they are I think all three of the console manufacturers just prefer it if EA/2K do the work for them.

EA went as far as to have spokespersons and their own executives, talk crap about Wii U OPENLY.

They basically called Wii U trash.

I understand that money is the most logical choice as of why they're ignoring Nintendo, but they were supporting past consoles even if software sales were bad. I believe there is something more, and I wouldn't doubt for a second that they don't have a beef with Nintendo after the whole online thing fiasco....

You don't go from getting small revenue from software sales and keep supporting, to announce a partnership or whatever, and two months later proceed to publicly insult Nintendo.

If I may, I'd like to offer a suggestion, and I apologize to anyone who made this suggestion earlier.

What if EA and Nintendo did this.
What if EA will make their sports games for all the systems (including Nintendo) but instead, for Nintendo's consoles, instead of creating a new game every year which would eat into their profits that they make off of the Xbox and PlayStation versions, why don't they just make the eventual NX version a game that has continued support for that console's lifespan. (And this goes of 2K as well)
Notice how with each new sports game they release, they changes are mostly minimal, (updated rosters, a few extra game modes, more customization options) Instead of making new games for that on the NX, they could just add them as updates to NX versions of the game at no extra cost, (or $10 DLC, since this is EA we're talking about)
So instead of Madden NFL 2017, or NBA Live 2017, it'll just be called Madden NFL NX, or NBA Live NX, (since there still isn't a finalized name yet), and they can continue with releasing a new game every year for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Meanwhile, Nintendo gets those sports games and EA 3rd party support that are on the other 2 consoles, just via a different, consumer friendly method!
EA and 2K get their money, Nintendo gets their 3rd Party support, fans get their games and support that lasts them the entirety of the console's lifespan!
Everybody wins!
Anyone?! Anyone at all??
Hey, it might work.

i've said that for years.

The only issue is EA like their money lol. Hence why they quickly make a new version each year and close down old servers.

When they released the game in 2012 on Wii U and fit I am pretty sure it was liek Fifa 2010 or 2011 with updated rosters but not game mechanics lol.

I see a point for Madden possibly but they are about to give up on Live pretty soon considering NBA2K is the perferred choice.  They should just do NFL, FIFA, and golf while charging for updated rosters.  They are pretty anti-Nintendo at the moment though.  They shit on Nintendo fans too much recently for them to expect decent sales from anything they can produce.  They spent less than 6 months porting the only Madden version and it didn't feature any of the upgrades the other systems had.  Basically, they get what they deserve except for NFS: Most Wanted U.  Criterion made a decent effort but it was a late port.  This game actually caused me to break my EA boycott because I was like what the fuck...  They closed Criterion down and this was the last game on Wii U for EA.  I felt it was fitting to buy.

It would be sincerely hilarious if the NX turned out to be a phenomenal success and Nintendo decided to ignore EA.

Unfortunaly that would be really hard. Games like fifa ar the best selling games across the competitioner consoles. I do know many people who JUST play fifa on their console. Keep in mind fifa does almost sell only in europe and the sales are ridiculous high for that single territory.

The system wouldnt stand a chance against ps4/xbox one in europe. So it would be the exactly same like the wii u, just a secondary console. Todays situation proves, that most gamers are not interested in owning more then 1 console per generation.

I don't have the facts, but I find that hard to believe. Football/soccer is a huge sport globally, unlike say American football.

Quite frankly, Wii U owners have ignored games from numerous major publishers. EA, Activision, Ubisoft, etc...

The Wii U audience is primarily interested in exclusives and casual stuff. Anybody that disagrees simply needs to look at Wii U software sales.

I feel core gamers already know the best place to find core games is on Playstation and Xbox. If Nintendo wants to become a relevant platform for core gamers they need to do more to attract 3rd party developers.
