Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Picked Up An XB1 Over The Weekend

I don't like the UI either but yes it's about to change in the coming months also MS should do a better job for install speed since it's atrocious. It took forever to install Forza 5 and Dead Rising 3.

I get your point about showcasing what the console can do and ofc HaloCE isn't the best game to showcase it's power but I don't think anyone expected that. A remaster of a remake can only do su much. Try Ryse Son of Rome. To me it's still one of the best looking games available on consoles to date.

EA Access is also a great way to have access to more games. Now that both Titanfall and Dragon Age Inquisition are in the vault it's difficult to pass by.

Anyway congrats on your purchase, I recommend you grab Forza Horizon 2 if you like racing games it's the best imo.

So they should've waited even longer to release the first Halo game on the platform (ignoring Spartan Assault) and then include Halo 5 as a showcase? How much would a customer need to spend for this? $100 at the very least.

Remasters will never be more expensive to create than the original, so you shouldn't expect them to be equal to other graphical powerhouses.

Never said they should've waited to release it either.  What I am saying is that, if they were looking to get a new user to react right out of the box with "wow, look how amazing the games on this system look and play!" then they shot themselves in the foot.  If the first 30 seconds of a game have noticeable technical flaws, it isn't doing anyone any favors.  I completely understand the reasoning why they included their most popular franchise in their new system release.  However, that is clearly aimed at an existing audience, not necessarily a new one.  If it is aimed at a new one, it might not be the best move they could've made.

Well it isn't bundled with every system, people choose to have that as the game they get with their new console.

Agreed.  It was forced on me in the sale but it is still the package I would've selected if I were buying it individually so that is a moot point from my perspective.  I am also a returning user though, and knew what I was getting with the bundle.  :)

I see. So when you bought that charger on Amazon, it included rechargable batteries, which you had to put into your XBO controller, and take out the batteries that came along with your XBO purchase?

Correct.  The batteries that come with the system are your standard run of the mill duracell batteries.  I opted to buy the chargeable pack so I wouldn't have to be replacing batteries every few weeks.

Yeah, I would have done the same. Saves you money in the long run too. I'm surprised they went with standard batteries like this. That's an extra cost to consider. Even as poor as the 4 or so hours for the DS4 are, I prefer chargable controllers. I have a USB extension cord so I can play while the charger is plugged in.

Both have their pros and cons.

Batteries don't last forever. In a few years your PS4 controller might not charge anymore, which leaves you with less options.
Last gen I went through 2 or 3 play and charge kits (about 15€ each). Not because they were faulty but because the capacity decreased naturally. I could easily replace them or use AA batteries. Wouldn't have been so easy (cheap and trouble-free) if the battery was built into the controller.

Of course if you already use lots of AA or AAA batteries it's even better and cheaper to use a multi battery charger like this one:

Grats on the acquisition.
One thing I've been wondering about, out of the box, how do you charge the XBO controller?

It has AA batteries, just like the 360 controller.  Charger and pack sold separately and are optional.

I bought a 6 ft micro USB from amazon fit like $3.  If you don't mind being wired sometimes, it works for PS4, too!  Well worth the investment.

Would still need to get rechargeable batteries though yes?  I didn't bother checking the batteries that came with the controller, just assumed they were standard one and done types.

Ryse (damn auto correct REFUSED to accept that spelling!) is probably the best looking game on the console. If you can get it for cheap and don't mind a looooooooooooong install, give it a try. It's a shallow game, though.

Yeah.  I had several rechargeable batteries from last gen so I'm good ( thanks, Wii and 360) but if you don't have any charged, a cell phone charger fits the bill.  The one that came with ps4 is fine but it's so short.  Buy one and user it with both consoles.  Then you can be cool like me!

Both of my consoles are within reach of my chair for the short ass PS4 cord to work well.  I may have to return the pack charger I bought.
