I bought a 6 ft micro USB from amazon fit like $3.  If you don't mind being wired sometimes, it works for PS4, too!  Well worth the investment.

Would still need to get rechargeable batteries though yes?  I didn't bother checking the batteries that came with the controller, just assumed they were standard one and done types.
