ATB is the only way to go. I would like the graphics to be equivalent to FFXV's summons. I would also like for them to allow you to choose random-encounter rates, experience/gil rates, and combat speed like they do in Bravely Default.

after playing Bravely Default it made it hard to go back to random encounters cause those settings were a life savior.

It won't be turn based, I expect action RPG. People are forgetting a remake isn't just improving graphics it means to improve all aspects of the game.

You said improve, not diminish the quality of the game.

Yes improve or tweak the ATB system.  Removing it for action RPG would be a kick in the nuts to fans and a big mistake.  Most fans want a legitimate remake of the game while maintaining the essence of what the original once was.

It doesn't have to change gameplay (at least not drastically.) A good example of an FF remake is FFIII or FFIV for the DS/PC. If this is an  Action RPG I'd consider it a reimagining (like Silent Hill Shattered Memories vs. Silent Hill 1) rather than a remake.

Yep. They allowed you to level up when you wanted, while progressing in the story when you wanted.

I hope it is. It wont be much of a remake otherwise.

I don't want a clone of FFXV.

No random encounters though. It should be integrated in the map, sort of like chrono trigger.

Don't get me wrong I love the turn base battle system but it is very dated. This FFVII is going to adapt to new people that never played FFVII just as much as the old veterans. They claim to have an "updated gameplay" whether that means changing or tweaking turn base is debatable but I'd be fine with an action RPG type gameplay.

With Nomura at the helm I highly doubt it will be turn-based. I have no idea if that will be a good or a poor decision on their part, but for my personal tastes: ATB would be nice but I would endorse a different system as well. How many HD ports of FF7 have been released that had the ATB system? Lots. This time they are actually remaking the game, and that goes beyond a graphical overhaul IMO. I'm prepared to see a lot of differences, and I'll be glad to see them. No playthrough of any classic game is ever as good as the first one so I don't think anyone here should be so confident in recapturing all of the magic they felt before anyway. No matter what, a lot of people will be gently let down. And that is ok.
I embrace this remake with arms open wide, and I will take whatever SE throws at me.

I disagree with this. Just recently played Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, and I enjoyed them just as much as the first time I played them (and this is probably my eighth time for FFVI and fourth for Chrono Trigger.) Classics are classic for a reason. No matter how many times you play them they're great and the memories and nostalgia just makes them better.

Also in this thread people mentioned liking RPGs their second playthrough more than the first.
