We, Nintendo fans, need to be real... they launched this console with what? A party game and a reharshed New Super Mario Bros. game they didn't even cared about making new songs for it. The following year: more party games, casual games (Wii Fit), and just 2 great games: 3D World and Pikmin 3. Pikmin 3 never took the most out of Wii U because it was originally a Wii game, 3D World was awesome, but left many wondering where was the "real 3D Mario", because it really just looked like a 3D Land expansion.

The following year: Mario Kart 8, which was the best in the series imo, Smash, and another 2.5D Donkey Kong no one asked for. What a wasted potential... instead of creating a beautiful and creative 3D platformer, they gave us another 2.5D game. But we can still consider 2014 a great year, cause Tropical Freeze was a quality game, and Smash + Kart were great as usual.

Moving into 2015: A fucking Kirby spin off that looks like an iPhone game. A Yoshi game, that instead of using new artstyle, reutilized Epic Yarn's style. One of the worst Mario Parties ever, and FINALLY a good and new IP: Splatoon. Star Fox looks like shit, Devil's Third is setting to bomb, but we'll have to wait and see, and then we have XCX, which should be wonderful.

I just talked about major/important games, I know I missed some too... but the whole Wii U life felt like this to me: wasted potential, wrong directions, disappointments.

The ONLY 2016 game I'm excited about is Zelda, and I hope they don't blow it too. Worst Nintendo generation so far. As a Nintendo fan, I'm very sad. You can deny it all you want, but they are being underwhelming, at best.

Sorry about the rant, I'm just really sad/disappointed.

No doubt about it. I give them credit for what they did manage to do with it though. NO ONE except Nintendo could have survived they way they have been with no third party support, yet they managed to somehow.

Nintendo fusing their home and portable hardware divisions tells us one thing.. No more waiting.

I also don't see how NX wouldn't be backwards compatible. Splatoon, Mario Kart, and Smash continue to grow.. People will be playing Xenoblade and Zelda for a while.. It wouldn't make sense to just abandon that.

With the wii selling so great despite being so technically inferior to it's competition, I get the feeling nintendo thought they could get away with that again as long as they tagged some gimmick along with the console.

From the outside looking in, it never really looks like nintendo has been trying with rehash game over rehash.

If not for Pokémon, zelda and smash, I don't know were they'd be right now.

I hope you can get a massive bonus towards the new console by trading in the abandoned wii u or I can see lots of people saying fuck it and moving on.

releasing a new console 2 and a half years haver the competition has never been done as far as I know and is a huge risk........unavoidable as it may be.

I hope they match the power so they can actually get 3rd party support this time around because I don't trust the nintendo developers to warrant buying a system if you have to depend on mainly them to supply the content.

Yep, very true. Its like their just milking as much as they can with the amiibos, since im not sure if the amiibos will continue to the NX.

Thank you, pavo. I really needed a hug after today's reality check I suffered. I think you're right, the wound will hurt less, but my 100% confidence in Nintendo was broken this gen, I won't be buying the NX day 1 like I did with every Nintendo system since NGC/GBA. I'll wait a least 6 months to see if it will really pay off.

I don't know about abandoning, but the nx will probably come holiday 2016. i think the line up will be stronger than it appears.

Wii U is dead and I wish the 3DS was dead. All those games looked like PS1 quality.

Nintendo is done in the home console market. No one is going to buy it after the Wii U.

Pretty close to how I feel too mate.
