it's better than bloodborne... every way.

The combat in this series is godawful. Gameplay is usually not the forte of Western developers. I've been saying it for some time, western devs need to hire Japanese to do the gameplay.

Just by watching videos I got bored, nothing seems to excite me about the game, the gameplay, the medieval setting, same old tiring quests, Geralds voice and the way he delivers his lines. Barely managed through W2.

It's sad but the best WRPG actually came from Japan, Dragon's Dogma.

Are you talking gaming in general?

Yeah.

Dragon's Dogma blew everything away as far as WRPG goes, Mass Effect was great until they took out the rpg elements.

You should read an article on Gamespot that compares WRPG and JRPG.

Dragon's Dogma was basically a hack n' slash in a painfully boring open world. The combat was solid, the story on paper is good, but it fails almost everywhere else. The reason western gamers have become turned off to Japanese games is poor pacing and Dragon's Dogma is one of the worst offenders of that.

because you went in with the wrong mindset. Witcher series is a very involved game and story and world. It's better if you played the previous games.

So it's like the first two watchers - pretty with terrible gameplay. Guess I should just avoid it then.

The combat system is somewhat strange at first, I also got that feeling at my first session. But once you get the hang of it, it gets better. All I can say is, don't use lock-on every time, especially if you're fighting against multiple enemies. Use your magic stuff and alchemy and also you should dodge A LOT. Counter-Attacks are good for human enemies, but not so much for monsters. There's a good strategy for every enemy in the game. But you can't just run into fights and slay mobs like you're in Diablo.

Running around is indeed a little awkward, but that also just needs some getting used to. I had no problems after about 2 hours of playing. If you ask me, the controls aren't perfect, but they're not horrible either.

I don't think he's talking game in general. Because Western devs blow Japanese equivalent out of the water in biblical proportions.

Any genre that is heavy on action and popular is dominated by Western devs; TPS, TPA, FPS, Sports, RPG, RTS, Moba, etc...

Witcher 2 grew on me as I progressed through the game. It ended up being my favorite fantasy RPG of last gen. I have part three but I am waiting until I have more time to spend on it.

Thanks for the opinion, OP. I was thinking about getting this game, I was undecided because I do not enjoy sword/sorcery/dragons type games, but thought to give it a chance due to excellent reviews.

But if the gameplay is secondary to the story (and the story is not my cup of tea), I really have nothing to look forward to. My plan was to get the game when it dropped to €20, or when the complete edition got released, but now I can forget about it altogether.
