I don't personally put much value in console games being 60fps (outside of specific genres). I'd usually rather they use the resources to push a game's tech, scale, IQ, AI, etc. I suppose it's subjective though ^^.

OT: If they're targeting 60fps with a similar stability to BF4, i expect they'll settle for 900p/720p again. I'd be happy to see them cut back the visuals in favour of better IQ though.

Metroid Prime 2 is one of the best looking games of its generation and it runs at a perfect 60 fps.

If other developers can't do all these things combined then they're obviously not as good. Did TLOU's terrible framerate fix the game's terrible AI? Nope. Is it a game on a grand scale? Nope. Does it push game tech? Most definitely. Is it worth it? Don't think so.

If the screenshots shown of Star Wars Battlefront III aren't bullshots then it's a very good looking game.

*shrugs* I disagree. At no point while playing TLOU did i think "darn, i wish this was 60fps". Heck, on several occasions i forgot to turn 60fps back on in TLOU:R while using 30fps in photomode. Once i get passed the initial change (which admittedly feels rather dramatic), it's stops being particularly relevant too me in such games. I'm not the only one to forget about the frame-rate in TLOU:R either :p

I never, however, stopped noticing the rich environments, the detailed in-game character models and interactions, or how the game maintains a high level of detail even in the more open areas. You don't have to agree, as i said it's subjective, but personally i put more value in that than 60fps in this context. I wouldn't have minded a slight visual downgrades for a more stable frame-rate on the PS3 version, but outside of the school bus area, the drops were never much of an issue for me. They probably would have been in Uncharted, but not in TLOU.

I should note that i wasn't saying a 30fps game should excel in all the things i listed, nor that a 60fps game can't excel at any of them. Having twice as long to render each frame simply gives you a lot more freedom in how you approach such things (which should go without saying, really).

As for Battlefront, from my understanding the trailer was pre-rendered. The final game will no doubt look fairly nice (BF4 did, outside of its IQ), but it won't look like that.

Regardless of what someone can achieve at 60fps, they'll always be able to achieve more at 30fps. I presume home console Zelda has been 30fps for a reason.

Anyway StarWars BF is a competitive online shooter, I'm usually graphics whore but even I can except that 60fps is the most natural fit here and as you said it looks great, infact it may end up being the best looking game of the generation on release :)

Honestly I'm going to keep my hopes up and say it will be 1080P@60fps ( Fingers crossed )

TLOU isn't a 30 fps game, it frequently dips to low 20s. The AI in this game constantly breaks the immersion. And the way the Clicker works doesn't even make sense. It's supposed to see like a bat, but then it would be able to see you even when you stand still. There's also very little variety in terms of enemies. There's no excuse for this game having the framerate it had. During calm moments the framerate doesn't matter that much, but when you're in an action scene it's incredibly annoying.

Metroid Prime 2 had all these things and still ran at 60 fps.

Star Wars Battlefront III is an online third person shooter, 60 fps is the right way to go. I'm sure the game's environments will be richer than TLOU: R.

Looking from the previous two titles hardly will be solid 60fps :(

And resolution most likely to be 900p on PS4.

This is supposedly in-game,. If true obviously on ultra running on 4 GPU's simultaniously but still a good sign for the console release.

TLOU being 60fps wouldn't have improved the AI though, would it? It'd likely have simply degrading the quality of the stuff that did impress me (and potentially made the AI worse). I value that stuff more than 60fps. It's as simple as that. And as i said, being 30fps doesn't ensure you excel at everything, it just gives you more freedom. As for the drips, i already covered that: "I wouldn't have minded a slight visual downgrades for a more stable frame-rate on the PS3 version, but outside of the school bus area, the drops were never much of an issue for me. They probably would have been in Uncharted, but not in TLOU."

As for the last point, that wouldn't be a particularly difficult to achieve. TLOU:R looks fairly nice, but it's ultimately still a PS3 game. There are other 1080p/60fps PS4 games that surpass its environment detail already (such as Metro: Redux).

I'm just saying that a developer who prioritizes gameplay over graphics is more talented than let's say Naughty Dog in the other areas as well.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 are some of the best looking games on the Wii and they're 60 fps. Same goes for MK8 on Wii U.

I'm already looking forward to Retro's next game, hopefully it's 3D this time.

nintendo consoles are build for this. ps4/xbone are build for better textures and more effects.

thats why nintendo is okay with less ram and ps4/xbone can handle good textures and effects with a weak gpu

I don't believe gameplay and game tech are inherently divided. Gaming is ultimately a form of entertainment, and i often enjoy a game that makes effective use of those additional resources more than one that simply targets 60fps. I expect i'd have enjoyed TLOU less if they'd degraded the things that continually impressed me for something i'm not too fussed about.

As for SMG and MK8, as I've stated previously, a game being 60fps doesn't stop it being able to excel at stuff, it just limits what you can and can't do without dramatic trade offs. If you want to make something like XCX, 60fps really isn't really an option unless you want to butcher a lot of what makes the game feel grand.
