Forums - PC Discussion - [Confirmed] Valve has no oversight for its own platform

well if a monopoly decides to stop distribute something, well thats censorship of some kind too.

and yes, im all for  quality controll, but thy should ban a game from steam just because it offends some people.

That's up to Valve. If the game offends them or they feel it is disrespectful to their customers, they may choose to disallow it. Or they may not. For whatever reasons they like, as long as those reasons are clearly laid out -- this is the problem. If they want to have any kind of restrictions at all, their standards must be made clear. Otherwise it just looks like they're folding under pressure when the community kicks up a stink.

I wouldn't call Steam a Monopoly. There are competing services like GOG, and anyone can sell a game pretty easily through their own websites. Steam is the dominant digital games retailer, but it is not the only one.

I dont want Valve or anybody else to decide if a game is disrespectful to me or not. if i dont like it, well i ont buy it.

and it dont think that gay people need help in the digital arena, i dont think anybody has to fear hardcore muslims or christians in a place where just the mind counts...

Something doesn't have to be disrespectful to 100% of a company's customers to be harmful to their image. You are not the be-all, end-all of Valve's business. They aren't deciding anything for you personally if a large group of their customers complain about something and they decide to listen to those complaints. Especially since you seem pretty apathetic about the game itself and are only bothered by the idea of censorship, which is not what Valve is doing.

X360 has 2 marketplace sections for small downloadable games: Arcade and Indie.

Indie games are self published, they use X360dev kit and it mostly gets published with no supervision. Its contents have the least quality obviously.

Then there is the Arcade section, which games placed here have to have a publisher and by doing that, it has to go through a certification process (I believe internally).

I don't know why you're bringing the parity clause up over and over, as we're not talking about Indies relationship with MS but Indie software quality.

In my honest opinion, MS should've been indiferent to most Indies released until now and invest in more partnerships to reinforce the brand (type?) Arcade Games. Which brought us State of Decay, Battleblock Theater, Shadow Complex, Iron Brigade, Toy Soldier, Geometry Wars, Dust: Tale of Elysium, etc... all made for X360 first.

1Xbox Live Indie Games was an absolute mess and was pretty much just as bad as Steam Greenlight if not worse because it lacks the exposure.

2Taking away all of the bullshit that MS has pulled in the past (you want to pretend that it isn't a part of this conversation when it is), Arcade is no better structurally than PSN or eShop.

1- Isn't that apparent on any Indie scene(music, film, etc...)?

2- What bullshit MS has pulled you been rambling about? Arcade on X360 was more robust and had more to offer than any other console. MS has been offering Arcade Games since OG Xbox, when PopCap was  an Indie dev. Every Summer since 2008 (stopped in 2013), MS promoted indies through Summer of Arcade.

And when you say Arcade is no better structurally what do you mean by that? I hope you're not talking about MS backing the program.

pandering to SJWs is not a good business model.  and i dont think that gay PC gamer will be so offended by this game that they stop buying games on steam.

or that many other heavy steam user will stop buying games on steam. if we see an outcry, its from those tumbler SJWs, and Valve shouldnt care about them.

(and if any gay person feels realy offended, i have a good game idea for You,  gay anime sex sim with jesus and mohammed having cowboy gay sex.)

Now's the time for Microsoft to challenge Steam.

Yupp... I was telling people for a couple of years now. Steam will become the Android/iOS app-store of the PC industry.

I'm pretty sure people would've cared. Would the overwhelming majority care? No. But gays still existed 10-15 years ago; they're just more accepted now.

Not like that matters anyway. It's like me lynching an African American and saying "If this was 100 years ago, no one would care." Doesn't make it any less fucked up.

That's a good point.

But it might change with every level.  If they kept going till just about everyone was a target then it sort of nulls itself out.  Like South Park, they offened everyone and everything, so nothing they do is really unsulting anymore.  If they had a 'kill whitey' and other levels it would just be a poor game.

But really, what IS Valve doing?  Have we seen a working prototype of their new OS and DirectX competitor yet?  Cause I know they haven't annouced new AAA games.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Does this not go under "free speech" or whatever? This game is disgusting, but since Americans love free speech and freedom and all that aren't these guys free to say or do what they want too?
