Forums - Gaming Discussion - 7th Gen was the worst Console Gen ever: My opinion/Rant

So a lot of people give sh#t on this console generation saying its the worst generation ever but i think its a huge improvement over last gen. Here is why

- the Wii went after the casuals and had motion controls. I personally really dislike the motion controller of the Wii, i dont even consider the Wii a console because of its control input (its not a controller for me). I dont know for me the Wii is the last console i would buy, and i think the Wii-U is a huge improvement. At least i can consider buying a Wii-U one day. The wii was very underpowered it was even weaker than the first Xbox, with the Wii-U at least it is a bit stronger than the 360 and PS3. The Bayonetta 1 port shows.

- and motion controlls in general are finnally death in this generation, rip wii mote, playstation move, eyetoy and the kinect. Its finnally gone like a lot of other gimmicks like 3D.

- unlike last generation this generation isnt hit with huge failure rates not that i am aware of yet. The original Xbox 360 broke 60% in most households, original PS3 10%. It was unacceptable. Seems IBM cant design good cpus anymore thats why Apple also switched to x86.

- no focus on multimedia but gaming. I think it was a huge failure by sony to shoehorn in their blueray player for the ps3 just to win their format war. I dont understand why people complain about the lacking mp3 support with the ps4 while feature like shareplay are much more inttresting.

- now people give a lot crap for the 8-Gen consoles to be reliant on patches, installation and dlc but really? who started all this nonesense in the first place? It was the 7th gen. The PS3 and Xbox 360 really didnt looked that much different since 2011.

And you people dont have to support broken games like AC Unity, just dont buy games like these. Games like the Order 1886 or Bloodborne are still good games without any patches and multiplayer mode or other online component. Espacially the Order gets a lot of flag but people forget it was one of the least exposed 8-Gen games to patches, game got only 1 patch being 30 mb big. So where is the praise for that ?

In general first party titles are the least guilty to patches or being broken at least from ps4 side i can tell. Bloodborne runs also fine without the patch. And the loadtimes are a design flaw from the devolopers not something rehashed, if it would be rehashed they would have given teleportation to any hub at any lamp just right away. They thought the load times are fine.

- the Installation talk is also wrong/half truths, the ps4 lets you play the game while installing. Of course there are some games like destiny or battlefield hardline who are made by EA/Activision who run the application but letting you wait in the game until it has finished with the installation.

But most other games you can play them while installing, i can confirm for: Last of Us, Evil Within, Alien isolation, the Order 1886, Bloodborne, Tomb Raider and Knack. Its all thanks to an Arm Cpu having 256mb built in the ps4 to assist the main cpu.

Also say you download a demo, a game, a patch or dlc. The ps4 will install it for you while youre playing. Except if it is dlc or patches for the game youre playing right now.

And i can recall how the ps3 was pretty much like that and people didnt have any problems with that. Most games you could play them without installation but some games like Lost Planet 2 required a 4GB installation for example which took forever.

Now with the wiiu it doesnt have any installations, xbox one is the guilty player here requiring you to install every game before playing as it lacks that extra arm processor the ps4 has.

- so a lot of people say this gen lacks exclusives in comparison to the previous gen. Yes its true but looking at gaming as a whole you will realize that this generation is lacking games in general, AAA games to be accurate. We see less and less AAA games being made and devolopers shifting to the free to play model or they are experiment to shoehorn it into AAA games, MKX was a good example.

Games get costlier to devolope and get delayed often times. In this enverioment its just logical that we will see less exclusives because more isnt required for Sony and MS to make. Third parties are pretty much failing apart, they are the ones who have to adapt not MS or Sony. Yes the ps3 and 360 got a lot of exclusices but look at the amount of third party games followed for every exclsuive. It was something like 1 to 20, this generation feels like 1 to 7-5.

The PC on the other hand doesnt get any exclusives anymore its a fact, at least when we talk about AAA games and not free to play or indie games. And even the ps4 gets indie exclusives or free to play exclusives like Deep Down by the way.

In the 7th generation i played on the PC because of exclusives like Crysis and Starcraft 2 who are true AAA exclsuives for the platform only possible on the more powerfull hardware. But this generation there is no point owning a pc for me if youre interrested in playing a lot of different games. Because the pc has the least amount of AAA games. I am massivley disspointed about blizzard, one of my favorite companies in what direction they are going. Instead making a warcraft 4 they rather make free to play games like hearthstone or overwatch, or what ever that shooter was called..... Blizzard is pretty much dead for me and this was a huge reason why i am switching now back to consoles. Because all the pc games who are avaible now are also on console, we even get those indie and free to play stuff. RTS games are also dead now and get replaced with DOTA games who i couldnt care less about.

So i dont understand why people advice switching to PC for the console gamers if the PC gets no exclusives whats so ever but the couple AAAs who are left. Yes they run better but the fact is still you get a lot less AAA games. And let me be clear, if i would count this generation as a whole and count the PC into it then yes it would be the worst for me, but when it comes to consoles only, then yes they are certaintly better than last gen for me. At least with consoles in this generation i can look up to and be excited about the exclusives they may can get. What can i be excited for from Blizzard these days, or Valve?

7th gen was fucking legendary!

This one is pretty good so far too though...

In the eye of the beholder, I guess. I had a ton of fun playing video-games last gen.

It would have been, if this one wasn't already worse.

The 7th gen had creativity and ambition, two things the 8th gen is desperately lacking.

Around the Network

7th gen ended with some of the best games ever created, but I understand most of your points. Honestly, ever since game releases for 8th gen finally started taking off in the later half of last year, I've had no problems. Sure online servers and networks can be a bit buggy here and there, and some games need more than just a patch to be in working order, but that's all apart of the process that is currently shaping this gen to easily be the greatest in gaming history within the coming years. People tend to forget that rocky starts tend to lead to some amazing finishes, especially in this industry. I'm enjoying the hell out of my PS4 so far, and can't wait to experience what's down the road.

I will admit that I was disappointed by 7th Gen as a whole. The fact that the Wii won that generation shows how awful everyone's decisions were.

For me, 7th gen is fine. The majority of your listed qualms with 7th gen didn't affect me. 4th gen was the worst for me because it was extremely boring to me.

The Wii was a great secondary console though...

Whether or not you liked the Wii or not, it has some great titles. And that's why 7th gen overall was better then this current gen, all three systems had many exclusive titles. If you are a multi platform gamer like myself, 7th gen was good place to be and for many still is.

But i would have to say 6th Gen was the most legendary Gen of all time,, Dreamcast -PS2 - XBOX - Gamecube,, wow
