Forums - Nintendo Discussion - MEGATON?! Just How Big of a Deal is Ryu (Street Fighter) in SSB4? Thoughts on His Inclusion (if True)?

lol this is more of a megaton than the other megaton. Well played Tbone

SF is the biggest 2D fighter of last generation so it certainly has a big fanbase, but would one character make them jump to Smash Bros? No, because people are playing SF because its SF, not because of one character.

Not that i disagree with you, but you wont believe some people that wont/would play a game if said character isnt/is in the game.

I do agree with SF part, not going to get waves of SF fans aboard but it definitely can grab a few. TBH i see it the other way more, SSB fans that end up like Ryu if in SSB might give SF a shot.

SSB did this with FE, and my brother jumped on the classic megaman train after his reveal in SSB :p

Nintendo will just make alot of money off of Ryu. I mean they are making more money from Megaman than Capcom is :p

Some people here don't see the reality. 1. Ryu is a HUGE character, worldwide! He is one of the most recognised and loved videogame characters of all times! He's even known outside the gaming (and movie) world. Ryu is basically Mario of the fighting genre. 2. Ryu IS very much connected to Nintendo. The SNES was the most important factor to make Street Fighter II a big name (although it was already famous in the arcades and also the later Megadrive version was well received but without the SNES it definitely wouldn't be THAT big). In return, it was a major factor to sell the SNES.

I say it's awesome. Easily the most iconic fighter in a video game

Isn't Mario the most iconic BECAUSE of Smash Bros?

If that doesn't count because its a crossover then surely it is Pikachu via the partial release of Pokken in arcades in Japan.

:p

Epic and Megaton have no meaning anymore. They have been used too often for too much.

Way bigger than mega man, SF and Mega Man IPs aren't even in the same league.

Pretty sure more Nintendo fans hold Mega Man in a higher regard than Street Fighter...

I can't imagine this being a good thing other than a increase in support from Capcom for Nintendo systems. If this happens, then including Ryu in Smash is a godsend.

Hopefully that means Monster Hunter 4 on Wii U.

It wont. Capcom has made it very clear that the only thing they will support is the WiiU VC. Mega Man in Smash was to sell old Mega Man games.

how did they handle it terribly? It got decent advertisment for what it was and they cant do anything about people not knowing what Tatsunoko is, hell it wasnt even supposed to come west.

"For what it was" is the key phrase, because it didn't get decent advertizing for what it was. What it was was the greatest Capcom fighting game of the last decade. What it was advertized as was a weird throw away fighting game that no one would care about. It should have gotten SFIV/MvC3 levels of advertizing.

So yeah, they handled it terribly.

thats your opinion and honestly it means little. It did get decent adverstiment, what it was supposed to get the same treatment that the MAIN Street Fighter games get? Or the Marvel Vs Capcom series Marvel being THE brand in this day an age. Tatsunoko which no one in the west knows about and lucky if they eve recongnize G-Force/Gatchaman.  IMHO it was kind of a weird throwaway game. They made there money since it was just an easy translation and not that expensive to make. IMHO Mvs.3 and SSS4 were better but thats just me. Not to mention that it released on a system that isnt really fighting game friendly, in terms of reception and sales. Smash being the sole exception.

It is a HUGE deal.

It allows for MORE 3RD PARTIES!!!!!!!! And also.......SECONDARY 3RD PARTY CHARACTERS SO MORE SERIES OF SAME COMPANY CAN BE IN SMASH!!!!!! (#BayoforSmash)

furthermore.....it will help streetfighter fans buy Smash. And vica versa. Also.........I smell..........a StreetFighter Game + Nintendo deal going on. :D

no it wont, thats not how this works. THe games play way too differently to really effect each other sales.
