Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What If NX = steam machine made by nintendo

Just humour me, imaging we lived in a world where this was possible, as it really should be for a company with nintendos resources.

What if the NX was a Nintendo created steam machine (running only steam OS and a Nintendo os) for $500 that played steams back catalog, Wii U backward compatibility with the likes of Mk8 and smash, and had exclusive rights to all new nintendo games? Valve would also prosper immensely from this with the sale of a lot of hardware running steam os, and it would save their bluses from if the steam is failed. It would also allow Nintendo to keep their image of creating family friendly games while allowing their systems to run everything else on the steam store by default.

Discuss.

NX = time machine that sends Reggie back to 1988 so he can rewrite the contract with Sony so that the Playstation never happens. Nintendo also buys Apple in 1997 for a few million bucks.

Ergo once Nintendo creates the NX, the current time line will change, and in the new time line all third parties will be Super Duper Ultra Nintendo exclusive.

cfin pls

although that would be sweet

lol

I'd get that day 1.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

So Apple was that cheap back then?

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

If its backwards compatible... It will use PowerPC... Steam OS and majority of the steam games run on x86... There is no way will this be backwards compatible and be a steam machine... Heck, there is 0 chance of it even being a steam machine even if it wasn't BC and I don't really feel like writing an essay as to why it won't...

But if it is... Then it still won't matter cause most games on Steam are windows only and are not on Linux/SteamOS so this wouldnt help at all and it would probably lead to greater risk of piracy

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Nintendo has made PC parts since when? They might as well just start making games for PC then (Windows...) and have their own marketplace for their games, where they earn every dollar from the digital sales. There's no way Nintendo would get a dollar from the sales of other games on Steam anyway.

Instead, you're proposing that they start making PC games, but only release on a fraction of the PCs in the world.

How in God's name would Linux lead to more piracy? A Linux user is far more likely to pay for a game than a Windows user

Scroll to the bottom and see who pays the most....

OT: No, just no

No, what I'm suggesting is, it would be wonderful if this was possible and I just wanted a fun discussion. Jeeeez guys....

Anyway. If the Nintendo games could possibly run in a separate partition as such, then why not? They would only run on the NX. The addition of steam games to their console would just insure that all hardcore gamers would clamor for an NX.
