Forums - Sales Discussion - Why do people want Last Gen to die now? Cross-Gen Multiplats sell better its a fact

Of course cross-gen sells more; the install base is incredibly high that way. The reason so many want new games to be this-gen only is due to the older generation hardware holding back the technical possibilities of newer games on newer hardware.

Also the idea that games are more well received when they are cross gen is a logical fallacy. It's anecdotal evidence. Evolve was reviewed as such because of its shortcomings; much like any cross-gen game could have shortcomings as well.
Oh and it should be said that I game exclusively on last gen (haven't upgraded yet) and I do enjoy new games; I'm just trying to shed some light behind their reasoning

There aren't enough worthy current gen exclusives to justify ending last gen development altogether

Because they are talking about game quality when they say that.

Evolve was hated by almost everyone who bought it see the metacritic it got a 4.4 by the users. And dying light got also mediocore reviews too from users and reviewers. Both games also dont look graphicly impressive.

I dont see a reason why the Old Gen versions had to be sacrificed for both titles.

User scores are never to be taken seriously, ever.

Both of those games are in the mid/high 70's IIRC, nothing wrong with those scores.

People want developers to move away from last gen because it allows the games to really take advantage of next gen hardware. Look at Mordor for example. Last gen doesn't have the nemesis system, which frankly is the only real great thing about the game. You can say Dying Light got some mediocre user scores, but how would that game have worked on last gen hardware? The open world would have been a lot smaller, the on screen numbies a lot fewer in numbers.

It's the same thing PC gamers bitch about all the time regarding consoles. They hold PC's back. Last gen hardware holds back current gen games.

Comparing Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed: Unity on PS4, gave me a good idea Why cross gen games have to die.

Watch Dogs is 10x better than AC, but in terms of performance, you can see the difference between a game made with PS360 in my mind and a game totally designed for the new gen. The difference is abysmal.

Well, I don't want last gen to die out yet because I still have a lot of games I want to play

The main reason why some want it to die is so that the current gen would get more support

Cross-Gen: Limiting Vision for Compatibility

No.

Most of the resources of 8th gen games are used on polished graphics. Simply scaling them back visually often makes them compatible with 7th gen platforms lower specs.

Look at the console games that have been ported to Vita. Those weren't designed for Vita but were scaled back visually to work on that hardware.

If you don't think they plan on it to be scalable..... I don't think that's hwo it works though.

If you don't think they plan on it to be scalable....welll.  Ok.

Well games are inherently scaleable.

For example, they could always lower the resolution or other visual effects to make them less demanding.

I'm thinking open world games, that use a lots more ram.
