There's a bit more reason behind it, but it was basically the way I was taught to act. I only ever block bots and people who block me first, on skype, for example. No matter how annoying. You don't need to press a button to ignore someone.


Some people prefer to remove the thing that causes anger/discomfort/etc, rather than ignore it. Some people are better than ignoring rude comments than other.

The problem is that this is a forum, and any user can go into any thread. I am [relatively] new here, and there are two people I already know I would block/ignore because they're insulting, and it seems they post whatever rude thing that comes to mind. I have reported said people multiple times, but nothing seems to be done. It would be better (for me) to have this feature so that these people can be blocked. Even the GameFAQs forum has this feature.

This sums it up perfectly !

I like VGchartz and I read more posts than I write, but there are some users which spread a lot of SPAM (imo) almost daily.

Would be nice to have a function to ignore them in general before entering each single OT.

(You don't see the author of a new topic on the front page only the title)

The author has never been my problem. It's the users that post in the [already created] topic that are the problem.

I remember Gnac making an userscript that allows users to block other users! I'm too lazy to link it though...

It is hard to avoid spammers here. The forum is not very big. What annoys me are certain numerous Nintendo fans that love to go into game threads and say all kinds of negative thoughts on games they will never play. A lot of these posters  do it all the time, but within the rules of the site so they rarely get banned. They are Nintendo only gamers and never plan to be anything except that. You are not allowed to name names here so it is almost a worthless discussion. Point is spammers are everywhere here on this slow forum.

Taking the easy route isn't going to help them get over the issue either.  The up-side?  You don't need a site feature to ignore someone's post.  You just do it.

As people already mentioned, Gnac did a script that let's you block users. I had it but I find it useless now, I feel I finally mastered the super secret ability called "ignore people".

It's fine if you don't need/want this feature, but it's also fine for others to need/want this feature. It's a moot point anyway since a moderator already said it likely won't ever happen.

I guess it prepares you for real life when you have to deal with people you don't like. That skill is highly undervalued as it shows lots of self control and strong listening skills.

I'd love the option, there's quite a few people here that somehow manage to avoid bans (even when reported multiple times) and some make obvious bait type threads or ones meant to annoy others, having the block/ingore option would be great if it could not only wipe their comments from view but their threads as well.
