Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS2 Emulation Megagamer Superior Race

I miss the days of PS2 RPGs. RPGs now seem mediocre at best. It makes me sad. I really wish they would remake the Final Fantasy games in true HD. I know it won't happen, so I don't need people quoting me, and letting me know that... but I still want it.

I got everything working and was playing Yakuza 2 start out of my disc drive. Controller working nice as well. Only issues I ran into was the sound. FPS is fine but audio would have occasional glitches or errors. It was odd.

Audio usually is the biggest problem for most people.

Here's a guide to sound problems.

I was twiddling with the latency a bit. I noticed some improvement, but I couldn't quite tell if I was breaking it by using save/load states and constantly opening the admin console.

Overall, I was pleased.

Question for those who emulate, are the programs compatible with legit PS2 saves? i would probably do it if I could carry over  my existing PS2 saves that I have.

I haven't investigated that but I think there is no way to connect PS2 memory cards to PC. But if your PS2 has a hard drive then it could be possible but I'm not sure.

I already have the saves on my PC. I have a memory card adapter on my launch PS3. I just want to know if the files will work on an emulator.

They will, I did  it once.

It is a huge pain in the ass though, you have to use like 2 or 3 programs and convert it 2 or 3 times.

The emulator still has issues.  For example:

This isn't emulated in hardware.  You have to switch to software rendering to get that and other lighting (MGS 3 for instance) working right.  Or else it's gone.  The other thing I noticed is the fail of emulating Street Fighter Alpha Anthology.  But to be fair, that title is emulating the games as opposed to a port.  Or the audio is emulated or something.  You have to run that game specifically with one rendering thread.  Audio, as others have mentioned, is "off" with titles.  Overall should be good for most.  I'm personally only using it in Software mode since I'm finicky about games being emulated right.  It's also a shame that the lighting and paper effects that the PS2 can pull off can't be emulated in hardware.  The author of GDSX gave up on it.  Also, Bsnes is superior to Zsnes.

Well, i have never seen BSNES' superiority. ZSNES runs absolutely fine with every ROM i have. Mayve i'll take a look on BSNES, but i have no real reason to change that.

Ahh Okami, it was the first PS2 game I played in PCSX2 in 2011 and the game that got me into PS2 gaming, but as later turned out it was the only game that properly ran on emulator for me lol any other game that I tried after that had unplayable frame rate, so I bought a PS2, but now that I have a modern powerful PC I play all PS2 games on that.

I'll post some screenshot from WRC Rally Evolved, best rally game on PS2 imo.

Duude this game rocks! Thanks for posting, I would never found it otherwise. And it emulates perfectly too, and has best grafix I've seen so far on PS2 emu, looks like a PC game from 2009+ minus the ingame resolution. I love me some quality racing games. PS2 library keeps amazing me, it's an inexaustibe gold mine.

I'm glad you got to know it! This game was made by the same guys that made the Motorstorm games and Driveclub so they know how to make a pretty game. I still play it often on my PS2, it's just better than most rally games nowadays.

It's really no wonder why the PS2 had achieved it's popularity.

Yes, as soon as I saw Evolution Studios logo I knew it will be great game. I enjoyed Motorstorm Pacific Rift and Apocalypse (and even platinumed it which I'm ashamed of LOL). This WRC Rally game has become my new passion for weeks or months to come.
