Forums - Gaming Discussion - So take Monolith Soft and out of the equation, who would you get to develop Xenosaga episode IV?

How many of you have played the entire Xenosaga series and read the Perfect Guide? Because the answer is literally nobody. No other developer is going to come close to replicating the depth found in the Xenosaga series if Takahashi is not involved. Not Mistwalker, not the Tales team, not tri-Ace or Konami - nobody. The other developers would be better off making their own sci-fi RPGs. Not that their worldbuilding would ever come close to Xenosaga's.

Haven't read the perfect guide, but I didn't know that was a thing until now. I need to read that.

I have, 307 images (if you get it off the internet), but definitely an interesting read. I've also played all the games so Soriku isn't nessecarily correct when he wrote "literally nobody".

Mistwalker

They don't develop large games. They make mobile titles or hire a development team to execute their vision.

The tales team could do a good job depending imo. Some of their plots are great some aren't but I still think they have it in them Tales of symphonia and abyss are prime example that they can build good lore and characters. Tri ace is sketchy sometimes they are awesome other times their so so as hell I still love their work and could see them making a xeno game as well. Square enix could def make a new good one if they really tried there's some talented people over there.

Tri Ace are so-so at times, but so is Namco Bandai and I believe out of the two Tri Ace has a lot more experience with scifi games. As far as Square-Enix, I don't think would be able to handle the story at all. I won't even get into how neutered their class systems and character customizations have been over last gens console Final Fantasies with the exception of XIV (and even still XIV had to be released twice).

Your right namco is also so-so at times but their much more frequent with their game releases so it doesn't come off as bad as tri ace to me. I personally believe their are a lot of talented people at square that just don't get the chance to make projects exactly the way they want if they did we'd see some crazy shit from them.

I haven't read the perfect guide, but I have played all the xeno games and while Takahashi is incredible at what he does I can say with confidence that devs like mistwalker and the Tales team can world build on his level if they so tried to.

Does the story really flesh out that much past Episode 1? Story was probably my least favorite part of the game. :-/

Mistwalker is the only team slightly on par with Monolith right now.

If you know of any other game series, especially a sci-fi one, that comes close to Xenosaga worldbuilding (including elaboration on characters) like that's present in the Perfect Guide...let me know.

I love the Tales team, I normally do like Tales worlds and characters, but...try to find a translation of the Perfect Guide and read it. The depth doesn't come close lol.

Yes...I think the third game is the best by far though. But you need to read the Perfect Guide for the full picture.

I intend on playing the rest of the series (after Symphonia of course ), but I was surprised to read all of this. It felt like no cared about Monolith or any of their IP until Xenoblade came out.

Ill check for a translation then.

Mistwalker would definitly work, but they arent developers, they are supervisors. I have no idea who would do the actual programming. Also, i would much rather get Xenogears 2 than Xenosaga 4. Xenosaga felt finished for what it was.
