Forums - Movies & TV - When should have The Simpsons been cancelled?

The Simpsons is ok and it's still sometimes pulls out some good new episodes I'm not sure whether it should be cancelled though. It's still enjoyed by millions, I just can't beleive Futurama didn't do as well it it because in my opinion Futurama was the better one and has so much more potential for greater episodes due to its theme I also prefer almost every character in Futurama compared to the the Simpsons, Fry leela farnsworth and all the rest are just better than homer, marge, Bart and gang.

The world isn't fair to rama. 1.2 million VS 6 simpsons. So rama died its 5th time.

Its still pretty good I would say its still better then 80% of other shows that are currently on TV. As long as its still profitable there is no reason to cancel it anytime soon.

After the movie came out

The Simpsons is still very profitable, still puts out good material, and is still a hell of a lot better than Family Guy and its clones. I wish Futurama was still in production though.

EDIT: It's also far better than all the low-budget "reality" shows on cable TV. A&E and TLC should change their damn names.

haven't seen it in years. lol

Interesting question. I'd say at the conclusion of season 8. The quality began to dip noticeably after that.

For those eight seasons, especially during seasons 4, 5, and 6, the show really was on top of the world. It's a shame it's gone on for so long. Years of mediocrity have tarnished its reputation somewhat.

Completely agree. Even season 9 dropped in quality and had a different feel and pace. Had they have ended it at season 8 the show would have been immortalized.

The show is still hilarious and the "awfulness" of the current seasons is massively overblown by people nostalgic about the past.

IMO it became sort of crappy after 16th, to the point that I fell asleep watching one episode of the 20th season I think. Just being HD already gives off a different feeling. However, I think that after season 23 they got back on track. Times are different, they can't be the same than before, but now the series is more based in absurd humor and often clever references to the popular culture, so I started enjoying it again. Besides, most episodes used to be "something happens, but we press the reset button at the end of each chapter", but now it feels that the series have a bit more of continuity in regards to the events that take place on each episode.

If they cancel the Simpsons, I'll be a little bit sad but I'll get over it. If it keeps going, cool. It's not a bad show at all, even now. I wish to hell they'd kept Futurama going though.

Family Guy, though, should have stayed cancelled the first time. It was all right as a dumbed-down Simpsons clone, but it sucks balls as a ham-fisted South Park clone, and hopefully they won't let McFarlane make more direct clones of Family Guy.
