The Game Awards = A Joke.

Missing a ton of categories, missing many games on the list for some of the categories, and funniest of them all is the highest rated new game of the year isnt a GoTY contender.

Nobody takes those seriously :-/ (but i do get wat yu mean, shame they had to pick IOS over the PC with more reviews, they didnt do that with Shovel Kinght)

The industry takes it seriously.

Whether you think something is a joke or not is irrelevant. You don't get to sit here and make up rules on what gets to count and what does not. It is what it is and Hearthstone iOS is rated higher than PersonaQ. That is fact.

lol, ok so your going to ignore it when everybody picks the ps4 version of a multiplat over X1 (because it tends to get more reviews). Rules i dont make up btw, nice try though XD

Answer my question, why isnt shovel knight on that list? 3ds version = 91, but pc is an 85. Why do we use pc version? Because it has more reviews.

Whatever you say pal. For the most part things like these don't put multiple games for one company in a single category. Sometimes yes, but most of the time, no. They need to allow other companies to have a game to represent them. You can't just fill it up with Nintendo games. There are tons of games to take into consideration and can't entirely be based on Metascore. Meta critic has their own awards for that.

Youre basing on Metascore in this thread, hence my Hearthstone claim. The game is part of the awards because it is a very good game.

For all we know Nintendo might have wanted to be represented via Bayonetta and not Smash.

As for your "picks PS4 version over the Xbox one". What do you mean by this? With awards it is the game itself, they don't say "Dragon Age Ps4 edition"

Also, how are gamers the industry? We don't make the games.

That's like saying my whole neighborhood is the car industry because we all own cars.

The problem is, that many sites decide to put more weight in some genres when it comes to GOTY nominees. It seems obvious that fighting games got the short end of the stick in The Game Awards...reviews tend to rate games more on what they set out to do as opposed to other arbitrary factors like "its a fighting game so it cant be GOTY", which is why tbone is using metascores.

Also, why should a game not get nominated in a category if it was indeed better than another game? Why should Smash get ignored because Bayo is there? I would understand ignoring, say Assassins Creed Rogue if Assassins Creed Unity was there, but it makes no sense to ignore a game just because another game by the same company is in the same category.

Also, with metascore, we pretty much always use whatever version has the most reviews...not sure why there is any argument about that. Typically the version with less reviews has more reviews by "specialty sites" which tend to be more forgiving to the game and fewer general reviews which tend to be more critical. Accepting whatever version has a higher metascore is cherry picking.

EDIT: The consumer decides what is good and what is not. That is what tbone means by "we are the games industry". It should be the decision of the gamers which game wins GOTY, and if the gamers disagree with the decisions of some specialized commitee, then it is certainly worth saying that they don't accurately represent the opinion of gamers...

I didnt mean to say It shouldnt be on there. I'll leave it at that, cuz i wont stop arguing and it doesn't seem as though we should continue :)

We are the industry, no gamers = no gaming industry. It happens all the time with games that sold terrible for example.

Same could be said with a King. No People = No King (i forgotthe saying lol)

When Metacritic has their own awards I am sure they will factor in the iOS Hearthstone and its 93 score. Having less reviews means little. It had less because A.) it was on mobile and B.) It was already reviewed previously when on PC, so many wouldn't review it again. Hearthstone is considered best when played on iOS. 

This is a show that's seems to have been made in collaboration with the big companies, so im sure they had input on how the nominations went. What did people want, Smash, Bayonetta, Mario Kart, PersonaQ taking up 70%+ of the nominees for GoTY? It can't work like that. That would be like the Emmys making the Actor of the Year nominees entirely with Breaking Bad actors. It just doesn't work like that. Sometimes you might have 2 in there, but other shows are also great and need representation.

Also if you look outside of forums I am sure many of these nominees are valid amongst people who play games. The list is fair.
