That said, what is up with so many games launching without functional online?

That's a good question, I'm suprised I haven't seen a thread around with the chaos going on with WoW which seems to be far worse than what has been going on with MCC and Driveclub. I am a little worried on the state Smash Bros' online will be in on Friday to be honest.

Like I said to about another review with a similarly low score, the singleplayer alone is good enough that the game deserves at least an 8. If Halo had always been a singleplayer only series you'd better believe that it wouldn't have gotten 6's, so a collection with all 4 singleplayer campaigns certainly doesn't deserve a 6. Multiplayer is getting better now anyway, got into about 6 matches in one hour. New patch coming on Monday I believe which should improve it a good deal more.

Nah, the score is deserving.

Regardless of whether the singleplayer player is enough to atone for the shortfalls of the multiplayer is besides the point.
Halo is advertised as having a multiplayer component, there are people who live and breathe Halo's Multiplayer.

So it's only fair to have to have the score reflect where the game falls short and that's currently the Multi-player. (Especially as they talked-big on the games Multi before release.)
Besides, it's not just the Multi-player where things were buggy, people couldn't download the "app" to access the terminals in single player for days (I was one of them.)
Heck, I couldn't watch Nightfall either.

If these companies aren't/can't be ridiculed for where they fall short in a games release, then they will release their next game with the mindset that they can get away with it in future releases.

Besides, the "Multi-player connectivity" has only improved by 20% according to 343 industries, I still have only been able to get a single match (And that was a 3v4 match so it was unfair to begin with!), 343i have stated they expect the 19th for another patch to be rolled out, putting the game at 8 days with crap match making, it could go longer if the next patch doesn't fix everything.
That's simply unacceptable from a franchise like Halo where you expect a certain degree of quality control, this is a AAA, first party franchise remember.

A bit harsh in my opinion. Hopefully, the recent trend of harsh reviews on unpolished games, will spur developers to take more care on quality assurance before release.

Reviewers were way too generous last generation so they should also be blamed.

Welp, Nintendo hasn't goofed up yet with their MK8 launch or SSB3ds launch (apart from peer-to-peer issues that all peer-to-peer games have where the host is using dial up connetion) so other than missing some "social" features, I think it will be fine when it comes to actually being able to play online

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Damn that's really low for the franchise that becoming the backbone of Xbox platform.

But if HALO overall experience and core design is for the competitive multiplayer, that's quit reasonable seeing how the online part is broken right now and playing the single player campaign is not that interesting for the veteran or people who have bought the series before.

I hope 343 fix the online component soon.

It doesn't update the score if a score is changed.

Did Polygon change their score? How many points were added to the Polygon score thanks to MS million$?

The changed from 9.5 to 8 but meta still have 9.5

Wow, that's kinda low actually, and screams clickbait. You're gonna dock 4 points for one negative experience that is bound to be fixed soon?
