Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nvidia: Golden Days of Consoles Are Over, So Many Other Ways To Enjoy Games

During the call, a question was put forward to Jen-Hsun on how Nvidia’s cycle (the green half of the PC Gaming Duopoly) compares to the console’s, and what the CEO replied with was interesting, although expected.

But my sense is that the game console platform is not likely to enjoy the hay days when it was really unambiguously the only and the best game platform to enjoy games. It’s just not true anymore. There are just too many other ways to enjoy games. – Jen-Hsung

The PC has become the world’s largest game platform. China, the developing countries around the world, PC is a piece of platform they already own. They can upgrade it two, three, four times without having to change the basic platform. So the total of cost of ownership of a game PC is quite attractive. – Jen-Hsung

And so I think that there’s too many other ways to enjoy games now, for the game console to enjoy the hay days of the past. But we’ll see. The thing that I do know is this, without any question is that the PC is continuing to expand the number of titles. Great titles are coming to the PC. It’s is continuing to grow and the quality of titles is growing up ever so fast. – Jen-Hsung

lol Nvidia has been bitter this whole gen. Next gen they will be back on the negotiation table and they will have a very different tune if they make the video cards in the consoles.

I will never get my fps fix on my gaming PC. That goes to CoD and Halo on my Xbox.

But for most other things, PC the way to go. Especially once you find a solid Teamspeak community that plays lots of different games.

Looks at PS4 and Xone sales which will be 20 million after a full year has passed. I cannot agree that there is no money to be made in the console business. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the mobile market the biggest contender by far these days.

Another fun fact big budget games as GTA 5 and Destiny don't or are coming later to pc than consoles because that is more profitable so I really doubt if consoles are dead and pc is as big as a platform they believe. The console business is as alive as ever and the sales of the PS4 and the Xbone are going to prove that these holidays and in 2015. Many people also seem to forget that most pc gamers don't have an high end gaming pc, or a gaming pc which beats current console technology for that matter. Where is the PC library is growing BS come from, for as far as I know the PC won't receive many titles that don't come to the PS4 this year except low budget Indies and flash games. The PS4 has already 4 AAA games confirmed for 2015, Bloodborne, The order, Uncharted and R&C.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I think mobile gaming has a better chance overtaking traditional gaming than PC. The countries that have a large PC gamer base can only sale a very limited selection of games like MMO or MOBA. A game industry can't rely on two genres. In contrast, mobile gaming has a diverse amount of games that are top sellers like Angry Birds, Temple Run, Candy Crush, Cut the Rope, Infinity Blade, and more.

NOOOOO!!!!!!

I just started playing consoles properly.

I don't see anything wrong with what he is saying. Furthermore Nvidias making very good profits lately (as opposed to AMD) and their 900 series seems to be a huge hit, they aren't butt hurt at all.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Well eventually consoles will merge with PC's and we'll likely have a spectrum of "gaming devices" from most open-platform to most closed-platform. That is how I see it.

Despite some recent successfull months of PS4 sales, it´s true that consoles are down. Overall consoles sales are still decreasing year after year and people are increasingly playing on tablets and smartphones. PC gaming is on the rise again. I´d say all the business model of consoles will need a deep change

That is also why consoles are becoming more like PC's, it is just a question who will be first to work with Steam together..
