Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What Can Nintendo Do To Appeal To The West?

Make their next console x86 so that its easy to port multiplats from PS/Xbox to their console, actually work with third party developers and make the power on par with the competition.

Just let someone in the US create the innards of the next Nintendo system so western developers can easily make their games on it.

Nintendo need to throw money for some ports. We all know that major 3rd party games won't be on Wii U, so why not take some 2012~2014 games and re-release then on Wii U? Sure they won't even sell half what they sold on PS360/PS4/X1, but at least Nintendo will have games all over the year and can prepare the ground for their next system.

Also: Virtual Console, a REAL one. Remember Wii days? Right

I honestly don't think third parties want to support Nintendo. MS and Sony already occupy the "big two" options that third parties want. PC occupies that the third spot. Third parties already have a full docket, there's just no need for another console manufacturer from their POV.

Nintendo will always be the odd man out in this equation, even if they made a system exactly like third parties liked, there's still the issue that their games would sell less on such a platform because Nintendo games provide more competition that isn't there on MS/Sony's platforms.

So it's a zero sum game for Nintendo there.

Cutting a big deal with Disney and basically letting the two carry the platform with some Japanese third party support would be an OK solution IMO.

If their console is easy to port games to, ie x86 and power on par with the competition, third parties will port their games on Nintendo's next console.  Some even did it at the start of this gen and it was powerPC so it was a pain in the ass for them, if it was easy to port the games over most third parties would do so.

Idk why you think third parties only want their game on 3 platforms, they will put them on whatever platform makes them money, and if its easy to port the game over it won't even have to sell that much to make money.

Third party is the problem. Most people follow the third party.

That's why a big deal with Disney could help even the scales a lot.

A system with just Nintendo IP on it? Appeals to some people.

But add Iron Man, Captain America, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, etc. to back up Mario?

Suddenly now I think people would start to pay attention, as long as Nintendo could ensure the games are good (just treat the Marvel IP the same as they would their internal IP).

Third party situation is so bad that I don't think it will be fixed anytime soon, that's a dysfunctional relationship between a guy and his ex, at some point it just gets so bad that they just need to be away from each other.

Expanded audience keeps your longevity up. Disney can only be disney for so long and the same goes for Nintendo. Kids are growing up jumping past mario and jumping into COD. They need third party to keep people interested in their console as well as their excluisves. Market commercialism isnt like the 80's  and 90's anymore where people were glued to tv's and video stores. Its all about the internet now and kids want more than just family friendly games. They want the games they shouldn't be playing. This is exactly why Nintendo paid for Bayonetta, even though it doesn't reflect their philosophy at all.

The third party situation can be fixed next gen. All Nintendo has to do is listen to the third party when they say they are going to be making powerful games and they need a powerful console, like they did last gen. I'm sure Nintendo is listening now.

Nintendo's next console won't be x86 based. I would bet $100 on it.

It will be an ARM mobile CPU (v8) and an AMD low-power (consumption) mobile part which will allow for Wii U quality graphics (perhaps with better lighting/shader effects and more RAM) on a handheld. The home version will be the same chip overclocked with more CPU/GPU cores and more RAM for 1080p play at home.

Even on the GameCube ... Nintendo had most of the same third party games as the XBox and PS2 ... it just didn't help. That audience is owned by Sony/MS, there's not a lot Nintendo can do to win them back.

They need a way to expand their appeal in a different way.

The Avengers *are* more popular than COD. Marvel's IP is the holy grail of appealing to just about every imaginable demographic. No one has made a game for this IP with any care, the way Batman has gotten with the Arkham franchise. Enter Nintendo.

I thought this thread was about what they should do?  Not what will happen.

-Nintendo needs to develop Metroid series into a blockbuster title like Halo. Develop it into an amazing story telling FPS with a stellar MP. Find a Western studio for it.

-A second game would be a Flight Combat Arcade/Third Person Adventure Star Fox "a la" Star Wars: Unleashed. Platinum Games would be perfect for that.

-Get a damn good Racing game that's not MK.

-Make another game like Mario 64

Even if it was x86 based ... so what? Why is the average American/British/German kid going to buy the Nintendo console over the Sony or MS console where all their friends play? The Gamecube tried this approach and failed.

Nintendo's been trying to force feed Metroid down people's throats as a "Halo killer" for ages now. It just isn't.

Metroid is too cerebral/slow paced of a franchise to appeal to the "dudebros" crowd. You would have to make a Metroid game that basically had nothing to do with Metroid to make that work, which they sorta tried to do with Other M.
