Nintendo need to throw money for some ports. We all know that major 3rd party games won't be on Wii U, so why not take some 2012~2014 games and re-release then on Wii U? Sure they won't even sell half what they sold on PS360/PS4/X1, but at least Nintendo will have games all over the year and can prepare the ground for their next system.
Also: Virtual Console, a REAL one. Remember Wii days? Right
