Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo 64 vs Nintendo GameCube

Nintendo 64 or GameCube which is your fav?

GameCube 81 43.32%

N64 93 49.73%

I didn't own either and am dead inside. 13 6.95%

Total:187

Both have amazing game lineups in my opinion, but with its great platformers / Zelda OOT and MM the N64 just outdoes the GCN...

Gamecube. Simply because I've never owned an N64.

Both these consoles are generally looked as part of Nintendo's decline, despite that they were both unarguably brought joy to some. So which brought you more joy? Here's a small list of eachs 1st party titles and their counter part, won't go into 3rd party games.

Mario game, Mario 64 vs Mario Sunshine

Star Fox, Star Fox 64 vs Star Fox adventures and Assault

Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 vs Pokemon Coliseum and Gale of Darkness.

Zelda, Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask vs Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

Mario Kart 64 vs Double dash

F-zero, X vs GX

Super Smash bros, 64 vs Melee

Kirby, Kirby 64 vs Kirby Air ride

GC bought us Pikmin

also you should add Rogue squadron on N64 in comparison to the amazing GC games Rogue Leader and Rebel strike.

There is no competition here imo, the GC destroys the N64 in everyway side by side.

All of the following is my opinion of course...
Mario - N64 wins by a landslide...
Paper Mario - too close to call...
Mario Kart - N64...
Zelda - N64...
Metroid - obviously GameCube...
Smash Bros. - GameCube...
Pokemon - never played any of the GameCube games...
Star Fox - see above...
Kirby - same deal...
The GameCube also had Pikmin, Animal Crossing, and Eternal Darkness...

Have a nice day...

Gamecube had a handful of great games -- Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, Melee, Double Dash, Wind Waker -- plus some solid third-party support. But N64 wins handily. The GCN library just can't compete with games like Ocarina, Majora's Mask, Super Mario 64, Excitebike 64, and all the Rare games. N64 didn't get many games, but those it did get are world beaters.

I gotta give the edge to the GC.  The N64 had so many great games from Ninty and Rare, and even a few 3rd party gems in the mix.  SM64, Ocarina & Banjo for the N64 were unrivaled, but the GC had sooo many awesome games ... SSBM, Rogue Squadron II, Prime 1 & 2, Eternal Darkness, REmake + RE4, Timesplitters 2 & 3, F-Zero GX, Paper Mario TTYD, and many others, both 1st and 3rd party.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

N64 by lightyears.

Mario 64 was epic, Sunshine sucked.
Ocarina of Time was epic, Wind Waker sucked.
Starfox 64 was epic, Adventures/Assault sucked.

GCN would've been a lot more successful if it had taken Nintendo's franchises to the next logical level instead of neutering them.

N64 had the better Nintendo games. It just felt like every N64 effort they were going all out, whereas with the GameCube games it felt like to me like they were sick of working on Mario/Zelda/etc.

Plus GoldenEye and all the Rare stuff.

The only GCN game from Nintendo that IMO elevated itself to "god tier" like Mario 64, Zelda: OoT, and GoldenEye was Metroid Prime. Everything else was a clear notch below this top tier level.

I think a lot of GameCube games were dissapointingly rushed to market too -- Mario Sunshine was a buggy mess with camera issues and problems with its later levels, Wind Waker they admit they have to cut out dungeons to make its release date, Double Dash had the fewest Mario Kart tracks to race on, etc.
