Just nicked this off GAF:

November: XB1 launches
March: Titanfall, the biggest MS exclusive of the year, bundled free with every XB1 purchase.
April: Forza 5 bundled for free
May: XB1 gets a new $399 SKU, removes Kinect, for June.
August: Madden bundled for free, FIFA and Forza bundled for free.
September: get a free game on top of bundled free games, includes any recent game like Destiny.
October: Sunset Overdrive bundled for free
November: $50 price cut across all bundles, Two-pack Assassins Creed Bundle and Call of Duty bundled with XB for free.

vs

November: PS4 launches at $399
September: Destiny bundle launches at $450, saving the consumer $15

MS need/want US badly. This is great for the consumer and Sony will need to react to maintain their lead in the US.

I think MS wants to make sure the X1 gets off the ground and that has to be done early in the console's life.

If they don't make an effort than the platform can fade into obscurity. We already saw that happen to Sony's portable device and it was happening to Wii U until it got bundles.

All that within its first year? Jesus... o.O

^^ and that list leaves off the hugely promoted $449 Titanfall Kinect bundles for March as well.

Good point, I'll add it now.

Puts things in light, this50 cut will not give X1 any sales win over PS4.

WOW yet another big discount! Just shows you how shell shocked MS are!

Will Sony counter? The way I see it if Sony match this promotion the number of PS4's sold this holiday will dramatically increase. I mean the sort of increase that it's probably impossible for them to meet the demand. SO it is probably a waste of time doing it as they can likely sell out their highest possible shipment without this deal. Such is the colossal demand for the PS4.

I, unlike most people around here, don't believe discounts matter all that much. The Gamecube launched at $199.99, a full $99.99 cheaper than the PS2 and we ALL know how that went. Hell, the damned thing even dropped to $99.99 and it still didn't do anything.

If people want a PS4 more, a price drop's not changing anything because why should it? Think about it yourself. Would you buy a console you don't want just to save $49.99? lol It makes no sense.

Sorry but the Gamecube scenario is a poor analogy - No marketing, no bundles, piss poor 3rd party support and a previous user base of only 35 million vs 80 million plus for the 360. I think you are going to be very surprised what these bundle deals will achieve in the U.S this holiday season. Remember the One is already not too far behind in the U.S with current weekly sales. It will only go up. Also the xbox brand  has a far more home grown following in the U.S. Gamecube had none of these elements going for it.

So you honestly think people will buy a console they don't want just to save $49.99? I just don't see it. People buy what they want to buy. Price really isn't an issue unless it's ridiculous amount. I don't see any of us buying a console we don't want just because it's $49.99 cheaper. It's stupid for so many reasons. You wouldn't do, I wouldn't do it... I don't know anyone who would.

The only people who this will matter to are those who actually want both and don't have the money. But those are so small in number that I don't think it will have an impact.

Again as the XOne is already not too far behind the PS4 in weekly U.S sales, it is hardly a case of "people not wanting it". A price reduction in consideration of this fact along with powerful marketing and compelling bundles deals are going to guarentee very strong sales in the U.S between Nov and Jan. Again I think you are going to be very surprised this holiday.  Rather than a case of people wanting y and not wanting x it is more like people prefer y over x because of what you get for your money. This is were price reductions work when coupled with bundles and great game deals. People want great deals and bundles at an affordable price - completely different to what the cube offered when it's price was slashed (little 3rd party game support, no bundles and no marketing).

I couldn't agree less. People in the US don't choose a console because of it's price or "value." We choose for two reasons. Which one is considered the "it" console and which one PERSONALLY want. The price of the console is not the issue imo.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see but that's prediction. If dropping $99.99 didn't change things that much, I don't see how $49.99 will.

Well price can sway people. The bundled games doesn't hurt either. Priced swayed people away from the PS3 until Sony fixed that.

Removing Kinect just price matched the PS4. Safe bet sales would have been worse if they didn't do that.

This $50 cut won't put X1 over PS4. But it will encourage more people to get a X1 this holiday.

150 dollar drop in less than a year. This is why you don;t buy a console at launch XD

The PS4 went up $50 since launch in Canada. I bought the right one first :)

I think that removing Kinect and dropping the price changed things a lot.  If you look back at the sales trends leading up to the dropping of Kinect (thus dropping $99), you will see that they changed a lot after that. It didn't bring parity in sales, but it stopped what was an increasing sales chasm.  THe PS4 was outselling it over 3-1 before that.

M$ is battling a perception issue.  If the XB1 is perceived to be a little less powerful than the PS4, the price will probably need to be a little less at all times to reach a Perceived parity in value.

Anyone thinking that $50 won't matter during the holiday season, is just crazy.  If the PS4 had a 20+ million lead, it would have no meaning, but reight now it will have a decent impact until Sony matches in the coming weeks.

It is near the end of the end....
