WOW yet another big discount! Just shows you how shell shocked MS are!

Will Sony counter? The way I see it if Sony match this promotion the number of PS4's sold this holiday will dramatically increase. I mean the sort of increase that it's probably impossible for them to meet the demand. SO it is probably a waste of time doing it as they can likely sell out their highest possible shipment without this deal. Such is the colossal demand for the PS4.

I, unlike most people around here, don't believe discounts matter all that much. The Gamecube launched at $199.99, a full $99.99 cheaper than the PS2 and we ALL know how that went. Hell, the damned thing even dropped to $99.99 and it still didn't do anything.

If people want a PS4 more, a price drop's not changing anything because why should it? Think about it yourself. Would you buy a console you don't want just to save $49.99? lol It makes no sense.

Sorry but the Gamecube scenario is a poor analogy - No marketing, no bundles, piss poor 3rd party support and a previous user base of only 35 million vs 80 million plus for the 360. I think you are going to be very surprised what these bundle deals will achieve in the U.S this holiday season. Remember the One is already not too far behind in the U.S with current weekly sales. It will only go up. Also the xbox brand  has a far more home grown following in the U.S. Gamecube had none of these elements going for it.

So you honestly think people will buy a console they don't want just to save $49.99? I just don't see it. People buy what they want to buy. Price really isn't an issue unless it's ridiculous amount. I don't see any of us buying a console we don't want just because it's $49.99 cheaper. It's stupid for so many reasons. You wouldn't do, I wouldn't do it... I don't know anyone who would.

The only people who this will matter to are those who actually want both and don't have the money. But those are so small in number that I don't think it will have an impact.

Again as the XOne is already not too far behind the PS4 in weekly U.S sales, it is hardly a case of "people not wanting it". A price reduction in consideration of this fact along with powerful marketing and compelling bundles deals are going to guarentee very strong sales in the U.S between Nov and Jan. Again I think you are going to be very surprised this holiday.  Rather than a case of people wanting y and not wanting x it is more like people prefer y over x because of what you get for your money. This is were price reductions work when coupled with bundles and great game deals. People want great deals and bundles at an affordable price - completely different to what the cube offered when it's price was slashed (little 3rd party game support, no bundles and no marketing).
