I think this is for handheld, and it will be fun to see what they can come up with, considering that mobile GPU race is in full swing.

That would make sense with the "low power" thing. Preferably, you want your handhelds to have a life expectancy longer than a gingerbread man in a blender.

Yeah...nVidia Shield Tablet (which is around PS360 level) has only slightly more than 2h battery life when pushed to its peak performance. I still haven't seen any info for iPad Air2, but given that it should perform on the same level (and from other specs on battery life) I expect it to be around the same...which is really not that good IMO.

3DS is around 4 when pushed (without 3D), IIRC?

Here's a fairly detailed look at 3DS battery life and how variables like screen brightness, 3D, etc affect it.

Thanks.

I think they can get to that sort of battery life in 2 years and have Shield/Air 2 performance...awating eagerly to see what Tegra M1 (or whatever they call mobile Maxwell) will be able to pull...

  • Much be OK with the fact that we'll probably just ignore them and go with something cheaper.

wat?

Well, I thought it was funny.

Seriously, though, I hope they aren't going to focus on low power consumption and a small form factor again.  I don't know about Japan but no one in the west cares about those things.

exactly they dont need to target 30-50watts. Target 100 watts.

If a Wii U is half the rating of a PS3 slim and does the same, imagine what they could do with 100 lol. The chips in the future will also get smaller and more power efficient so 100 watts by then will be a great little machine.

Well it looks like it might be a powerfull-ish console if we go by what Vena said: "N64, NGC (2nd/most powerfull consoles of their gen) are built in the states. The Wii is technically just two NGCs glued together." idk about the Wii U

Iwata has said more than once that making the Wii U smaller and lowering its power consumption were points of emphasis.  Now, you obviously don't want it drinking energy like water or coming in at the same size as the original Xbox, but I doubt either of those things were going to happen, anyway.  It's not like people buying game consoles are making their decisions based off how much juice they require.

They just might want to emphasize OTHER console elements this time around.

unless they are trying to make a handheld. maybe a portable wii U...

Sounds like they're beginning to think a bit differently hardware wise.

How so?

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Wii U replacement in 2016.

The only thing this confirms is that Nintendo is indeed working on new hardware that, more than likely, appears to be home console related. So any theories about them finally "giving up" and going software only should be considered ignorant for at least another 5-7 years.

No I wouldn't. Right now its getting such low/average sales in what should be its peak year.
