Forums - Gaming Discussion - XBox One Install times

Having been lucky enough to own both an XBox One and a PS4, I find the install times on the XBO ridicuous.

The PS4 can install a game in around 60 seconds, yet to install Forza Horizon 2 took almost an hour!

Im just curious if anyone knows why they huge difference in time it takes on each console and if ever in the future Microsoft could release a patch that reduces this?

EDIT: I dread to think how long it will take me to install Halo MCC with the patch as well :(

Took a step back with that. Anyone know if an update can help that or not?

Put 256GB SSD in Xbox One. But be careful. It might void warranty.

60 seconds to install GB's worth of content? No I do not believe that for a moment.

Hell the PS3 installation is an utter joke aswell you download the content and then have to wait again for it to install. Unlike the 360 where you simply download and then BAM its ready to launch.

I believe, and I could be wrong here, but I believe it's because the PS4 has a secondary ARM processor to assist with installations and other OS functions.

I found this video to show, someone times it installing Need for Speed, it takes 42 seconds

You should compare games that have about the same size.

A game that can be copied within 60 seconds on a HDD can't be much bigger than 6GB. Horizon 2 is 36GB.

But I think you're confusing things. That PS4 game needs just as long to install a game, but you are able to start the game earlier.

Doesn't the PS4 have this special featire which allows you to start playing, before the entire install is finished?

I take it all back that is some impressive timing.

as I just said, it's just copying a few necessary files to start and it then reads the rest from the disc while you're playing. At the same time it's still copying files in the background.
