Forza Horizon 2 hasn't done that well. Considering how it never got close to topping the charts on Amazon, I think Drive Club should perform better. This includes the topics discussed that would generally hold it back.

Using Amazon's rankings:

Currently
42.) Forza Horizon 2

Best Sellers in Video Games for September 2014
71.) Forza Horizon 2

In comparison, for only the month of September,  the PS4 version of Watchdogs outsold it for the month.  Last of Us for PS4 was number 21.

Forza won't do well either, but it should still do better than a game that's free with PS+ in terms of retail sales, which are all we'll get in terms of numbers.

Worldwide, I'd put money on DC selling more if you include digital sales, and maybe later on we can figure that out by trying to find active player counts.

But basically anyone with PS+ will check out the free version and from there, it's 1,000x easier to just purchase activation of the full game rather than leave, drive to the store, come home, uninstall the PS+ version, install the retail version, etc.

So the only customers for retail DC will be

(A)- Impulse buyers
(B)- People with slow internet, but still have some kind of connection that works with PS+ (eg; 768k to 1.5mbit kind of connections) .. because DC is online-dependent as a title.

IOW, this might be one of the highest % digitally sold games of all time vs. retail version, maybe something like 90/10 or higher.

FH2 has not been charting well, I think a lot of X1 owners already are satisfied with FM5, which was heavily bundled and has a more established pedigree for serious racing fans (just like GT sales will absolutely obliterate DC sales), and those fans will mostly wait for FM6 for their next racing game. MCC will be the next huge X1 seller, though it remains to be seen if it will be a substantial system seller. DC is not a system seller, neither is FH2.

I think the strongest system sellers this fall will be multiplats that look great on both systems, honestly.

Why would I buy my game on Amazon, when i could either 1)preload it or 2)pick it up from many stores at midnight. Also the best preorder bonuses came from other retailers.

PS Forza Horizon should be excluded from being compared to Driveclub, it's a lose-lose everytime because the built in excuses are already there, it's a new ip, it has a free version, Forza is established........

Depends on how many white PS4 bundles Sony is throwing Driveclub into.

I just saw that bundle!   I beginning to think that all plausable bundles may infact exist in some region.

With that logic nobody would ever use Amazon for anything.

That argument doesn't hold any water, as it applies to nearly EVERY game. Because most games are on an equal playing field (eg; they can be ordered digitally, can be preloaded, can get special bonuses at various retailers), you can't dismiss the order on Amazon unless there is something really special about the situation.

And there is nothing special about FH2 that makes it more or less likely to be sold on Amazon, hence : the sales look mediocre at best for it. Not unexpected.

Still, retail sales for FH2 should easily >> DC. Including digital, who knows. DC seems like a great positive thing for PS4, but not in terms of retail sales, more in offering a great additional game that's under-represented on PS4.

No I used to use Amazon for a lot of my bigger puchases, but they charge tax now so the benefits are limited.

Exactly. If someone made the argument that DC wasn't selling well due to Amazon, we can easily say "well, people are getting it for free digitally with PS+ to try". Thats' a special circumstance.

Other situations are where Amazon's price is $59, but at a major retailer like Gamestop or something it's $49, or $59 with free DLC, etc. In those situations, the Amazon sales might be underrepresenting the real total.

Nothing indicates this though, charts from Best Buy, Gamestop, and Amazon all show FH2 to be .. okay. Not great, just okay.

Now FM6 will do gangbusters for sure. But people shouldn't expect miracles from smaller AA titles on any system. If you love the game, enjoy the hell out of it, but don't expect every game to sell 3M copies+, or enter the charts in the top spot, it's not realistic

Edit: Wrong reply

Not sure, my immediate reaction is that Forza should sell more, simply because it's an established IP. However, given the lack of a next-gen racer on the PS4 and the vast hardware disparity, I wouldn't be shocked to see DC on par, or outsell Forza.

That having been said, I also don't care.  As long as the games are fun, the sales are only relevant to Sony, Microsoft, Turn 10 and Evolution studios.
