Forums - Sales Discussion - XB1 will last the longest!

I think that most everyone here will concede that the PS4 will outsell the XB1 handily.

BUT, I think that buyers of the XB1 will be using their consoles for much longer than the PS4 owners.

It is obvious that as just a games machine, the PS4 has an advantage today.  But as time goes on, with the integration of Windows 10 into the XB1, the XB1 will be a better universal games machine.  M$ has clearly decided that they will open their doors to what publishers want(EA Access).  Sony can sell 25-30 million PS4's by the time Windows 10 comes out next summer.  By the end of 2015, there will be 50 million+ devices that run Windows 10, not including the 15 million XB1's.  With the app support that comes with Windows 10, the XB1 will have access to 100,000's of apps and GAMES!

Keep in mind, developers only need to add controller support to any Windows game to make it compatible for the XB1.  The cost will be minimal.  1,000's of new games for the XB1 by the end of 2015.

Like M$ keeps saying, this is a marathon not a sprint...

It is near the end of the end....

I don't see how, MS will have to come out with a sucessor before Sony does.

Good points. But in console gaming "games" sell consoles. Not apps. So this might be untrue. And all playstation consoles have a tradition of selling more than 10+ years.

I think that XBOX TWO will coming in 2018, and XBOX ONE will be on markect for 2020 with +40m sales.

Too little too late. Also, they dropped support for the original Xbox as soon as the 360 came out, and their support of the 360 the last two years can be termed abysmal when compared to the PS3's late-game rally.

Consoles are always defined by the games they have. That's what determines how well they sell and how long they remain relevant, all the rest is in the "nice to have" category. So if Microsoft wants to last the longest it needs to beat Sony in the games department.

I'm not saying they can't or won't but outlasting or outselling will not come from Window 10 integration or any other side feature. It has to come from games.

Signature goes here!

I understand what the OP is getting at and his points are valid. However, I'm with Truck on this one. The games will determine which system has the longest legs. The PlayStation (every one of them so far) has had extremely long legs of longevity. Xbox will have to put up those games to exceed what PS is putting out.

If Windows 10 introduces a PC-to-XBOX link, like streaming content, the XBOBX One will last longer.

But, the PS consoles tend to last really long too, so we don't know what'll happen at this point.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:3

Meh, I give the PS4/XB0 4 years.

Although the OS and services may grow down the way, Microsoft will move onto their next system the minute XboxOne passes its peak and makes is dollar back. The only way for them to regain marketshare is to come out before sony or do something amazing with their next system which sony doesn't (highly unlikely), or cross their fingers that sony F up with some silly DRM features......I think they'll go with the first option. When you are the market leader its in your interest to reap the profit from owning a cash cow and not end its reign to early (PS4), when you're just scrapping by theres little incentive to continue flogging a stagnated product (xbox One).
